Year 2 News
We have had a wonderful few weeks of learning in Year 2 and are excited to share some important upcoming events and updates from our classroom.
Historical Walk to the Bridge – Monday 25th August We are looking forward to our “Walk & Talk” on Monday 25th August to the Old Cobram/Barooga Bridge. Students will need to be at school by 8:50am so we can get organised and ready to leave on time. A letter with further details will be sent home next week.
Book Week 2025 – Wednesday 20th August Book Week is nearly here! On Wednesday 20th August, students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character. Please ensure your child is prepared to share:
- The name of their character
- The book they are from
Why they chose them We will be doing a special Book Week activity based on their chosen character during the day.
Mathematics Update This week we have completed our Multiplication and Division unit for the term. The students have worked so hard learning strategies for forming groups to multiply and sharing into groups to divide. To keep building these skills, we encourage students to keep practising skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s at home.
Thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning journey.
God bless,
The Year 2 Teachers
Year 1 News
In Mathematics, we have been learning about identifying, creating and continuing patterns. This has included making patterns with shapes, colours and numbers. Students were able to identify the unit, repeat and state what pattern rule has been used e.g. AB, AAB, AABB. We have also been learning about patterns with skip counting. We encourage students to continue practising skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s at home.
In Literacy, we have been learning new spelling rules such as doubling letters (ll, ss, ff) and our ‘ck’ rule. With both of these spelling rules, we are required to ask ourselves two questions; Does this word have one syllable? Does this word have a short vowel sound? If so, the word will require you to double the letter at the end (ll, ss, ff) or use the ‘ck’ spelling rule e.g. luck, rock, fell, spill.
In Sport, we have been practising different skills and techniques so we are ready and prepared for athletics day on Wednesday the 10th of September. Some of the events we have been practising are: vortex throw, long jump, hurdles, sack race and frisbee throw. Parents and special people are welcome to come along and support their child throughout the day.
