Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,
BOOK WEEK 18TH-25TH AUGUST 2025 – BOOK AN ADVENTURE
Next week is Book Week where we celebrate reading and the love of books. We have some wonderful activities planned for the week including:
The Book Character Parade – Monday 18th August 2025 at 9am in the Gym.
Parents/Carers, Friends and Family are welcome to attend the Book Week Dress Up Parade.
This will be the highlight of the week!
Some activities we will participate in:
📚 Read a Book a Day/Drop Everything & Read – Read a range of short-listed books. Track which shortlisted books you’ve read and give them a fun star or emoji rating.
🎒 Pack a Reading Backpack – Each student “packs” (draws/writes) five must-have books for a reading adventure.
🗺️ Literary Map Quest – Map out the settings of shortlisted books and plot them on a world map or fantasy map.
✈️ Book Adventure Passports – Create a classroom reading passport and stamp each student’s "passport" for every book they explore during the week.
Book Adventure Show & Tell – Bring your favourite book and explain the adventure or journey it took you on.
🎧 Mystery Read-Aloud – Listen to a chapter of a book without knowing the title and guess what it might be.
🎨 Design a Book Cover or Travel Poster – Make new covers for shortlisted books or a “Visit this Story World!” travel poster.
📸 Bookstagram Wall – Students take photos with their book/dressed up character from book week, and write a short review to post on a class wall.
🎒 Adventure Buddies – Pair up with another class (older or younger) to share and read books together.
“Reading gives us someplace to go when we have to stay where we are.” — Mason Cooley
Book week is a celebration of all things reading and books! We encourage all families to read at home and to participate in the wonderful activities we have planned for the week.
SCIENCE WEEK - 11TH TO 15TH AUGUST 2025
The school theme for National Science Week in 2025 was Decoding the Universe-Exploring the unknown with nature’s hidden language.
The theme invites students and teachers across Australia to delve into the mysteries of the Universe by exploring the fundamental languages of nature, including mathematics and the groundbreaking field of quantum science.
We are incredibly fortunate at Warrnambool Primary School to have Ms Hann as our Science specialist teacher across our school. Each week our students are involved in theoretical and practical experiments in a range of Scientific areas.
BIODIVERSITY IN 3A
Our Year 3A students have been busy stepping into the shoes of real-life ecologists, exploring the fascinating world of living things and their environments. After learning about the unique challenges of desert habitats and researching a variety of desert animals, students put their knowledge to the test by creating their very own unique desert creatures!
From camouflaged critters to animals with clever adaptations for finding food and water, the creativity and scientific thinking on display has been outstanding. This project has been a wonderful way for students to combine research skills, creativity, and an understanding of how living things survive in their environment.
Well done to our budding ecologists and the incredible desert animals they have imagined!
ART-icle OF THE WEEK
The Art room has turned into a mini jungle workshop! Our paper cup flowers are getting their second coat of bright, happy colours, and they’re starting to look like they’ve popped straight out of a rainforest.
Meanwhile, we’ve been busy making jungle vines from yarn, finger knitting and plaiting like pros, with both 3-strand and even tricky 4-strand plaits.
It’s kind of like a mix between crafting and a dance for your fingers, calm, rhythmic and oddly satisfying. Plus, working together means we get to swap colours, compare patterns and have a few laughs along the way.
CAMPING PROGRAM CONTINUES - YEAR 3 KANGAROOBIE
WEDNESDAY 20TH TO FRIDAY 22ND AUGUST 2025
The Year 3 students and staff are incredibly excited about attending Camp Kangaroobie next week. Students and staff will really enjoy the country life and experience of a working farm.
There's lots of fantastic activities planned and it will be such a learning experience and an opportunity for the children to experience independence.
They will learn a great deal about themselves whilst out of their comfort zones. Please ensure that all Medical and Consent forms are completed and returned in advance.
