From Friday 23 to Sunday 25 January, 105 enthusiastic music students gathered at the Alexandra Park Conference Centre for a vibrant and inspiring weekend of music making. Across three days, students rehearsed intensively in Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra 1, Chamber Strings, Chamber Choir, Big Band 1, Guitar Orchestra 1, Senior Strings and Performance Choir, working with passion and focus as they explored new repertoire and strengthened their ensemble skills. The energy and expertise of our 18 dedicated staff and tutors helped create an atmosphere where students felt supported, challenged and excited to grow.
The camp wasn’t all rehearsal, though. A sunny beach trip, a fiercely contested trivia night and a lively 10‑pin bowling session added plenty of fun, giving students the chance to unwind and enjoy time together outside the rehearsal room.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Enrico Le Mura, Samantha Blakeney, Alison Braidwood, Catherine Wasserman, Jamie Kennedy, Melanie Stewart, Andrew Butt, Janelle Lee Long, Zac Moynihan, Rory Dollard, Matthew Teakle, Sarah Kim, Evelyn Legried, Samuel Vincent and Dominic Machen for their hard work and enthusiasm throughout the weekend. We also extend a special acknowledgement to Matthew Sorensen and Monica Haworth for their exceptional organisational efforts, which ensured the camp ran seamlessly.
The 2026 Music Camp was a wonderful celebration of teamwork, creativity and the joy of making music together. Students returned home inspired and ready for an exciting year ahead.
We are looking forward to getting underway with co-curricular arts activities across the college. Please take note of our performing arts rehearsal schedule for 2026. All music ensembles will commence in week 2 of term 1. Art Club and Games Workshop will commence in week 3. Please note that due to some staffing changes, there have been some significant changes to the music ensemble schedule from previous years. If you have any questions, please contact music@marash.qld.edu.au
Instrumental music lessons will commence in week 2. Instrumental music timetables will be emailed this Friday with further information.
Art Club
Art club runs weekly every Tuesday afternoon, with each term focusing on a different project. Students from any year level (5-12) are invited to come along and learn new skills and be creative in a relaxed atmosphere. Students can take their work home at the end of each term. This term students will be creating a ceramic fantasy hybrid creature, which will be fired and glazed or painted. Art Club is also an opportunity for students who are studying Visual Art to access the art rooms and art materials and equipment to catch up on work outside of class time or for students not studying Art as part of the curriculum who wish to come along and work on their own projects.
Games Workshop
Games Workshop runs alongside Art Club and students from any year level (Years 5-12) are invited to come along and join like-minded individuals with an interest in D&D, Warhammer, board games or cards. Bring along your characters, projects, games from home and share in an hour of discussion, creating or “role-playing”. Basic art materials available or students may bring their own games, equipment and materials.
