A positive start through Wellbeing

As we begin a new school year, there is much to look forward to. Reconnecting with friends, learning new things and taking on new challenges. After the holidays, however, returning to school routines can feel overwhelming for some children. Supporting student wellbeing is an important part of helping everyone settle back into school positively.

Ways families can support wellbeing at the start of the year:

  • Re-establish routines: Consistent times for sleep, meals, learning and play help children feel calm and ready for school. Including breaks, outdoor play and quiet time supports balance.

  • Manage worries: Simple mindfulness strategies such as deep breathing or quiet reflection can help children feel calm and focused.

  • Encourage communication: Talk with your child about how they are feeling and remind them that teachers and families are there to help.

  • Support healthy habits: Nutritious food, plenty of water, regular activity and enough sleep all support learning and wellbeing.

  • Set realistic goals: Focus on progress rather than perfection and acknowledge small achievements.

  • Seek support early: If your child is finding the transition challenging, the school wellbeing team is available to help.

Returning to school is an opportunity for growth, learning and connection. By working together to prioritise wellbeing, we can support a positive and confident start to the year for all students.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. Here’s to a great school year ahead!
