Deputy Principal News

Our first few days at St Joseph’s have begun with a great sense of excitement and enthusiasm. As a new member of our school community, I have felt particularly welcomed by our students, who have eagerly shared their holiday stories, passions, interests, and insights about our wonderful school.
Like the beginning of any new school year, Term One provides our teachers with an important opportunity to support students in building new routines and habits that set them up for success in 2026. The routines established in classrooms lay the foundations for learning environments that foster predictability, consistency, and a sense of calm. As the term progresses, our teachers will continue to explore new concepts and learning opportunities, striving to meet the needs of all students through targeted and differentiated teaching.
Weeks 1 and 2 have already offered many wonderful highlights to begin the school year. Our Prep students’ first days have been joyful, and so much learning is already underway. Our Year 5 buddies have provided outstanding support, helping our younger students become familiar with school routines. Excitement is also building among our Year 6 students as they prepare for their Canberra Camp, and I am energised by the leadership opportunities this experience will bring throughout the first term.
Our upcoming Parent and Teacher Interviews in Week 3 offer families a valuable opportunity to connect with their child’s classroom teacher. I encourage parents to reflect on the information they may wish to share to ensure these conversations are personal, meaningful, and equip teachers with the insights they need to best support your child this year.
In closing, and as they often say, first impressions count. My first impressions of St Joseph’s have been nothing short of outstanding. From the moment I arrived, our school has reflected a warm, caring, and genuinely welcoming sense of community. It is clear that our teachers are deeply committed, working hard to uphold high expectations and striving to bring out the best in every student. Equally impressive are the students themselves—kind, respectful, and appreciative of the many opportunities their school provides. Together, they create a vibrant and nurturing environment that truly reflects the heart of St Joseph’s.
I look forward to a great year ahead and watching our students continue to shine across 2026!
