3/4B

Mr Brendan and Ms Ashleigh

Welcome!

What a fantastic start to the year! We are absolutely thrilled to welcome all our new Year 3 and Year 4 students and families to 3/4B. The classroom is already buzzing with excitement, and it has been wonderful to see the students settling in, making new friends, and getting used to our routines. We have a jam-packed year of learning, discovery, and fun ahead of us, and I can’t wait to see what this wonderful group of students will achieve together!

Term 1 Learning Focus:

Our Learning Focus for Term 1

We have hit the ground running with our curriculum this term! Here is a sneak peek at what the Year 3/4s are working on:

  • Literacy: We are diving straight into our class novel, Yirra and her deadly dog, Demon, which will serve as the anchor for our reading comprehension and vocabulary development. Students will learn to define and use new words found within the text to expand their word knowledge. In Writing, our focus is on crafting factual recounts, where students will practice enhancing their descriptions by incorporating precise adjectives and adverbs. We will also be investigating a variety of spelling rules to help students understand why words are spelled the way they are and apply this to their daily work.

  • Maths: This year we will be working in different classrooms for our Maths work. All Year 3s students will work with Miss Debbie and all Year 4 students will work with Mr Brendan.

Year 3 Topics: Counting and place value, addition and subtraction, Time and multiplication and division.

Year 4 Topics: Addition and subtraction, Fractions, Time and multiplication and division.

  • Inquiry - Our Dynamic Community: Students will explore what makes a community dynamic and how communities can change over time. Students will explore creative ways to help people become more healthy and active members of their communities. They will also examine some community health messages and think about how they impact the choices of different people.

  • Wellbeing: To start the year, we are focusing on building positive relationships and emotional regulation using The Zones of Regulation and Respectful Relationships.

  • Education in Faith: In our Religious Education lessons this term, we are exploring the special connections between our school and the wider church community (linking to Inquiry). As we approach the season of Lent, students will reflect on the importance of preparation, prayer, and how we can grow closer to God. We will also be focusing deeply on the theme of Forgiveness, with specific learning around the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Important Reminders

As we settle into the new school year, please keep the following in mind to help our days run smoothly:

  • SunSmart: Term 1 is hot! Please ensure your child has a clearly labelled broad-brimmed hat at school every day. No hat means No Play!
  • Stay Hydrated: Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle into the classroom to stay hydrated during lessons.
  • Labelling: Please double-check that all jumpers, lunch boxes, and hats are clearly labelled with your child’s name. This helps us return lost property quickly.
  • Brain Food: We have a fruit/vegetable snack break at 10:00 am. Please pack a small piece of fresh fruit or veg to keep their energy up!
  • Specialist Days: Italian and STEM are on Monday. Please remember that our Library day is Wednesday along with Art, while Performing Arts, PE and Running Club are on Thursday (don't forget runners!).
