Level 2: Connect

School Production
The time has finally arrived, and the children’s excitement is clear to see! A big thank you to all our families for your support in making sure costumes are organised and ready. We look forward to sharing the production with you on Tuesday. The students have been working hard on their dances all term and can’t wait to perform!
Literacy
For the remainder of the term, we will be exploring the picture book Fire by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley. This story will help students learn how authors use special language to make writing more powerful, like giving fire human qualities and repeating words for effect. Students will also be writing their own descriptions of natural forces, such as storms or wind. The book will help us think about how fire can affect people, animals, and the environment, and how it can be both dangerous and a part of nature’s cycle of regrowth. Most importantly, students are learning about kindness, empathy, and how communities come together to help and stay strong after a fire.
Core Literacy
In Week 7, students learnt about when y = / ĭ /(short vowel sound, such as mystery and physical), they also learnt about Rabbit Syllables (such as the word hammer, see if you child can explain why), and the heart words - something, full and pull.
In Week 8, students learnt about /y = / ī / which makes the long i sound in the middle or end of words (such as word like apply and nylon) , Reptile syllables (such as umpire, see if you child can explain why), and learnt the heart words - sentence and heart.
Looking ahead in Core Literacy:
- Week 9: Next week the students will have a heart word quiz and review of the previous weeks.
Maths
The students focus for Weeks 9 and 10 has been data. How to collect data when conducting a survey by using tallies and how to represent this data in graphs. Students will also be learning to identify important information in various graphs.
