Term 3, 2025 - Level 3

Weeks 7 and 8 of Term 3, 2025 saw the Level 3 students continue with their learning routine along with valuable dance practice. The students are progressing with their ERPs and most of the students are close to completing these wonderful looking posters. If available, wWe really hope that you enjoy attending the Level 3 Expo in Week 9 so that you can observe the excellent ERPs that students have been working so hard on and are so eager to show off!

The dance lessons have now been completed and the students are practising really hard. The two dances will be performed at the two SEPS school performances in Week 9 on Tuesday 16th September 2025.

Literacy

In Literacy we have commenced learning about the Latin Etymology of words and numbers. The latest word that we are learning is the Latin word 'struct' which means build or moveWe explored how this word forms other words by adding a connecting vowel and suffixes. For example, de + struct = destruct and struct + ure = structure and con + struct = construct. There are many other words which we formed using 'struct' as the base word and adding various suffixes.

The students have just started to learn about the Greek words Di (two/ split into two); Tri (three); Penta (five), Oct (eight), Deca (ten). Many different words are formed from these base words and some examples are octopus, octagon, decade, division, dilemma, triangle, pentagon.

We have now completed writing our own Information Reports and most of the students have committed a remarkable amount of effort and time towards these reports. The information from these reports are being used for the ERP posters (Expo) and there are some amazing works in progress. The students are really looking forward to presenting their designs at the Expo.

At the beginning of each ERP, there is a special sentence that students have been working on. These sentences have taken a considerable amount of time and effort for the students to complete as they have utilising 'patterned writing' which is a specific writing skill utilising carefully identified nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs to describe part of their chosen celebration.

During the reading component of Literacy, the students are continuing to read different weekly celebrations about topics such as Diwali, St Patrick's Day, Eid Al-Adha, Ramadan, Moon Festival, Hanukkah, 14th July, Midsummer, Halloween, Chinese New Year, Solstice and other celebrations.

Maths

In Maths, the students have commenced learning about vertical subtraction with and without regrouping/ renaming. The most important aspect of renaming/ regrouping is that the students understand the Place Value of the numbers in each place value column as this helps consolidate their mathematical thinking. This mathematical skill is taught in small steps in order to thoroughly explain how regrouping works in detail. We are currently working on 2 digit vertical subtraction using regrouping.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, the Level 3 students are learning about Celebrations and how different cultures and countries celebrate important events. People recognise important events through celebrations, commemorations and traditions around the world, including whole world celebrations like the Olympics. Students will explore a celebration by researching the history of the event, the country of origin, its importance as a celebration or commemoration, and the cultural characteristics that make it unique to that country or culture.

Students have all commenced their ERPs on their chosen Celebration

There will be an Expo for all Level 3 students in Week 9 of Term 3 which will celebrate the students’ learning of important Celebrations. They will all be presenting their completed A3 poster in addition to their completed Information Report and any drawings/ dioramas that they might also have completed in relation to these. Students will also have the opportunity to wear different cultural clothes of significance associated with their chosen celebration.

GEM Chat - In the classroom, we have been discussing the rights and responsibilities of children. For example:

Children have a right to an education that develops their personality and abilities, and encourages them to respect other people, cultures and the environment, make the most of their education and encourage others to develop their abilities.

Children have the responsibility to make the most of their education and encourage others to develop their abilities.
