Hello Level 1 Families
Well here we are nearly at the end of yet another term. It has been the most wonderful term and our students have worked so beautifully.
The fabulous term culminates with our SEPS concert next week. We hope you can all pop along to see our incredible Level 1 singers and dancers. Thanks so much for your help with our astronauts' outfits!
As this is our last newsletter for the term, we wish you all a lovely, safe and relaxing break. We look forward to seeing you in Term 4.
Term 3 Reminders:
Our school production is on Tuesday 16th September. Don't forget to wear your costume to school on Tuesday!
Our classroom doors open at 8:50am everyday. This is to allow for students to enter the classroom, put their drink bottle and diary away, and then complete a 'soft start' at their desk.
We kindly remind parents to say goodbye to their children at the classroom door
1B and 1C change their take home readers every FRIDAY and 1A will change theirs over each WEDNESDAY. Please remember to pack take home books on your allocated day.
Hats should now be worn until the end of the year.
Friday is still our library day, so please remember to bring library books back each Friday so that students can borrow a new book or two.
This week we have been exploring the book Meerkat Mayhem, we will continue with this book next week. Meerkat Mayhem is a children's picture book by author Mem Fox and illustrator Judy Horacek, in which a cheeky, snack-loving meerkat gets stuck in his burrow after a large meal. To help him get free, other animals, such as an elephant and giraffe, one by one, come to his assistance, creating a cumulative, interactive story.
Heart words: This coming fortnight we will be focusing on revising words such as could, would and should and writing these words into sentences.
This week we focussed on the words below:
Phonemes: Next week will continue to learn about the 'ew' phoneme- as in few and screw.
Morphology: We will continue learning all about syllables.
We have been looking at open and closed syllables, vowel-consonant-vowel syllables as in beehive and sunshine and next week we will begin learning all about vowel team syllables.
We are currently revising consonant le syllables as in castle and puzzle, and all the other syllable types we have learnt this term.
Over the past two weeks, our Level 1 students have been developing their sklls and understandings relating to 2D and 3D shapes. Exciting times! W have been discussing hexagons, pentagons and trapeziums to name but a few. We have looked at all sorts of different attributes of shapes including number of sides and vertices, length and size.
As well as our work with shapes, we have been revising othr concepts in maths that we have taught this year such as addition and subtraction, and time, along wth developing students' number fluency.
This week and next week we will be discovering more facts about the 7 continents around the world. We will be finishing off this unit with North and South America. This week we learnt about where South America is located and the 12 different countries in South America. Also about where the Amazon Rainforest is located and the different types of animals found there.
We will move to North America next week. We will explore the different landscapes in North America, the political system there and the food that is grown there.
