We want to wish all our Level 5 families a safe and relaxing holiday. This short but jam-packed Term has seen many highlights we encourage you to speak with your children about:

- Dance Curriculum

- Healesville Sanctuary Excursion

- A Night at the Museum Concert

- Science Week - Dinosaur Exhibit in Science

.... the list goes on and on!

Inquiry

Our Level 5 students have wrapped up their inquiry into our Australian Democracy. All their learning over the last 9 weeks culminated in a mock election process. Students took on the role of a key stakeholder in an election, reflected on their part in the elction prcoess and acted out a particular stakeholder.

Next Term, in line with our Camp to Sovereign Hill, we will be focussing on History and Geography. This will run side by side with our Leadership Program to ready your children for their upcoming Level 6 Leadership speeches towards the end of the Year.

Maths

During Week 7 our focus was being flexible with the naming and renaming of decimal numbers. This week we are looking at drawing and reading angles.

The students are also participating in regular retrieval sessions, where we revise mathematical skills and knowledge from previous weeks. This regular revision enables the students to move this knowledge from their working memory to long term memory.

Literacy

In Reading, our students have continued their analysis of our cohort novel The Shop by Hoopers Bend by Emily Rodda. Students are encouraged to continue reading this novel over the holidays to see how our protagonists Quil and Bailey end up. Will they stay in Hoopers Bend to fight for their beloved shop, or will they cave for the money and return to their mundane lives?

Over the past few weeks, students have dived into the world of poetry, discovering how poems can creatively express thoughts, feelings, and experiences. They have explored a variety of poetic forms, both fixed and free verse, and are beginning to understand how different structures and devices work together to create meaning and mood. Through reading and writing poetry, they’ve identified key elements such as rhyme, rhythm, figurative language, and sound devices. Not only have students practised writing their own verses using poetic techniques, but they’ve also been encouraged to share their personal responses to poems — explaining how certain elements make them feel or help them better understand the message of the poem. It’s been inspiring to see the creativity, emotion, and thoughtful interpretation that poetry has sparked in our young writers!
