A message from Emily

Principal – St John's Footscray

Dear parents and carers

We've officially reached the end of a busy Term 3! It feels like just yesterday we started.

With spring here and bringing beautiful weather, we want to remind families that some children might need hay fever medication in Term 4. You can find the required medical authority form on the Office News and Updates page. Please return this form to the office with the medication.

What a fantastic day we had today acknowledging R U OK? Day! A huge shout-out to our school leaders, Isla, Eva, and Harry, who led a powerful assembly that reminded us all of the importance of checking in with others. Thank you also to our incredible school choir for their wonderful performance, which was prepared by Alicia.

The celebrations continued throughout the day with a fun disco during the first break, featuring some amazing dance moves, and a calm, mindful yoga session for students who wanted to unwind during the second break. It was a great day of connection and conversation.

It's been a fantastic couple of weeks, with the final days of our swimming program and our Term 3 Learning Conversations with our families. To celebrate the end of the term, we're holding our termly sports day tomorrow run by the Year 6 leaders. We invite all children to come dressed in their favourite team colours!

A gentle reminder: school will finish early tomorrow at 1 pm. We hope you all have a wonderful break and look forward to seeing you back for Term 4 on Monday, October 6th!

We have some wonderful news to share with our community! Maddy Flynn is expecting her first baby in early 2026. Please join us in congratulating Maddy and Dev as they get ready to become a family of three.

With Maddy's exciting news, we'll be welcoming a new staff member to the St John's community for 2026. I will share all staffing updates and hub structures throughout next term. Children will learn who their 2026 educators will be on 'Step Up Day,' Tuesday, December 9th.

Great news on our plans for the new Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA)!

The application to relocate our mains switchboard is progressing well, thanks to our ongoing collaboration with Jemena. As soon as we have a confirmed date for the relocation, we'll be able to kick off the exciting next phase of development due to begin in 2026.

What a wonderful effort from our students at last week's Division Athletics Day!

A huge congratulations to all the children who qualified to compete—this is an incredible achievement in itself. Even with the tough competition, we're so proud that several of our children earned ribbons in their events. Well done to everyone!

  • Tex P  - 3rd in shot put
  • Georgie V - 3rd in shot put
  • Isla F - 1st in shot put
  • Millie H - 1st in 200m
  • Ayla G - 2nd in discus

Isla, Millie and Ayla have qualified for the next event in October. We wish them all the best as they train for this next challenge.

Don't forget the MACSSIS Survey CLOSES TOMORROW, Friday 19th September. After yesterday's reminder email we have doubled our participation so I sincerely thank those who have taken the time to complete this year's survey.

Wishing all our families a wonderful and relaxing two-week break. We hope you enjoy this special time to rest, have fun, and make great memories together.

See you back here soon, refreshed and ready for the next term!

Warm regards

Emily

OUR IMAGE OF THE CHILD

‘At St. John’s, we strongly believe that children are at the centre when given authentic and meaningful experiences. They flourish when their passions and interests are acknowledged and valued. (St. John’s Staff, 2018)

We respectfully acknowledge the Wurundjeri People of the Kulin Nation as the owners of the land on which we live, play and learn at St John's Primary School, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

All students attending St. John's Primary School have the right to feel safe. The care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people is a fundamental responsibility of all within our school.
