Story Dogs at CPS

We are so fortunate to have the Story Dogs program at our school! It offers a wonderful opportunity for selected students in Years 1 and 2 to enjoy extra reading support by reading to a friendly, accredited dog and its volunteer handler. The mission of Story Dogs is simple but powerful: “to make reading fun for children, so they become confident, lifelong readers.”

Each 15-minute session is held in a quiet, relaxed space, giving children one-on-one time with the dog and handler. The books are thoughtfully chosen to suit each child’s ability, sparking a love of reading for both enjoyment and learning.

When children read to a dog, the magic really happens:

  • They have FUN
  • They are not judged
  • Their focus improves
  • Their reading skills grow
  • Their confidence soars

At the heart of the Story Dogs program is nurturing trust and mutual respect so children can form meaningful bonds with their Story Dogs. We can’t wait to welcome our furry friends to CPS each week!

A special “thank you” for your gold coin donations during Book Week, which raised money to help fund the Story Dogs program for our school.
