Calisthenics

Mrs Armstrong and her wonderful assistants have introduced the ELC 3 children to calisthenics. To warm up, the children did plenty of stretches and practised balancing. Then, they moved like animals, jumped forward from hoop to hoop, and began to learn a dance routine.

The children were shown how to safely do a forward roll: tucking their head to their chest, and waiting for an adult to assist. Then the children were supported to do a roly-poly with feet together, and then apart. The children joined in with a clapping exercise, clapping to the beat. The children are developing their coordination, gross motor skills, balance, and sense of rhythm.

Pre-writing skills and scissors practice

Pre-writing skills are the skills that preschool children develop in order to be able to write when they go to school. These skills include holding a pencil, drawing and copying shapes, and making the different pencil strokes that make up the letters of the alphabet, including lines, crosses, and loops.

The children are practising these skills in ELC 3, along with activities to support their fine motor skill development. The children are also practising their scissor skills, and have learned how to hold and use scissors safely, and turn the paper whilst they are cutting.

Mrs Alyssa Cairns, ELC Teacher

4-Year-Old Kindergarten

Dear Families,

We’re so proud of the growth we’ve seen in our ELC children and the wonderful sense of community that continues to shine through our events and initiatives.

Fundraising team

We’re thrilled to announce that our ELC fundraising team has officially been formed and has already hit the ground running. Two of our first events – the Father’s Day Stall and the Community Market – were great successes!  Thank you to all the families who helped organise, volunteered their time, donated goods, or came along to support.  Your contributions help us enhance the experiences and resources available to our children.

Prep Orientations

Our ELC children have now attended their first few prep orientations, and we’re pleased to share how confidently they are participating.  During these visits, the children have shown a growing ability to engage in group activities, follow instructions, begin writing their own names on their artwork and become familiar with the prep classroom environment, learning what it looks like and feels like.  This is such an exciting time as they begin preparing for the next stage in their learning journey, and we are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and resilience.

ELC celebrations and special days

This term has also been full of fun and community spirit with a number of special events, including:

  • Father’s Day Celebration Breakfast, where we welcomed our dads and special friends into the ELC.
  • Footy Day/Sports Day Dress-Up, showing off team pride or the sports they play and participating in the season.
  • Book Character Dress-Up Day, where creativity and storytelling came to life.
  • Parent-Teacher interviews have been conducted, offering valuable opportunities to connect, share insights, and set joint goals for each child’s ongoing development. These conversations are essential in strengthening the home-school partnership, and we thank all families who participated for their time and collaboration.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership this term. Wishing you and your children a restful and happy break. We look forward to another exciting and memorable term ahead.

Book Week

The ELC children showed much joy and excitement as they arrived in ELC, dressed in costumes of their favourite book characters. The children visited the library, where Mrs. Mann joined us in costume and read a picture storybook all about Book Week.

Back in the ELC classroom, we held a parade, and the children walked around the classroom to the music, dressed in their costumes. Many children brought their favourite picture storybooks to show the group. It was a wonderful day, and the children had plenty of fun as they engaged with literacy through celebrating their favourite picture storybooks.
