School Wide Positive Behaviour Support
Our focus for weeks 2, 3 and 4 is:
Holocaust Museum
The year 10s visited the Holocaust Museum on Friday 1st May. They travelled on Vline coaches and metro trains to reach their destination. They received a guided tour of the museum and learned more about the Holocaust which they are currently studying in English and Humanities. They examined replicas for artifacts and discussed their connections to the stages in the pyramid of hate, as well the acts of resistance and life after the Holocaust.
The day ended with the privilege of hearing from Guta Goldstein, who survived Lodz Ghetto and Auschwitz. Guta shared her story, her life as a young girl and how she lost all of her immediate family by the age of 12. While there were some heartbreaking moments in her story, Guta shared a message of hope and wished to impart on the students how terrible the emotion of hate is.
Students will now be able to continue to reflect and connect this experience to the core messages they are learning in English this term:
Victims were human, each with their own story, not numbers and statistics.
Hatred is learnt - we are not born hating. Racist ideology influences the masses by harnessing the persuasive power of propaganda.
Be an upstander, not a bystander. Be the change. Individuals can make a difference.
Seymour College turned blue for Do It For Dolly Day on Friday 8th May
Our VM students worked incredibly hard creating a powerful display of blue flowers, pinwheels and positive messages to raise awareness about bullying and the importance of kindness, inclusion and speaking up. We also put the blue poppies in our Defence garden to represent the same message.
Thank you to all staff and students who supported the day by wearing blue, donating to the cause and helping us spread an important message — be kind, because small actions can make a big difference.
Top Arts Excursion
On Thursday 7th May our senior 'Art' students participated in the Top Arts Folio viewing event at the NGV Ian Potter Gallery in Melbourne. Students viewed the best VCE art folios from around the state. This was a valuable learning experience for students studying art subjects now and into the future.
Year 8 Agriculture Studies
The Year 8 Agriculture class was delighted to welcome six new chicks to the school this week. The eggs were carefully incubated by one of our hens over the school holidays, and after the standard 21-day period, the chicks successfully hatched.
The chicks are a charming mix of specialty breeds, including Chinese Silkies and Pekins. Their mother has been very attentive, showing strong protective instincts and providing excellent care for her young.
This timely arrival has been a valuable addition to classroom learning. As part of their current unit on the poultry industry, students are completing a “Lifecycle of a Chicken” poster assessment, and the presence of the chicks offers a real-world context to support their understanding.
