Special Education

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

In Weeks 2, 3, and 4, all our Inclusive Education students will be focusing on: “I strive for success and excellence.”

Week 2 brought a new focus for our Special Education sector: “I strive for success and excellence.”

It has been wonderful to see students embracing this theme in different ways. Some of our younger students demonstrated this mindset by trying their very best at the cross country event, while others showed determination in completing learning tasks both in and out of the classroom.

It is inspiring to see our students stepping outside their comfort zones, engaging in new activities, and striving to achieve their personal best.

We look forward to seeing how our students continue to challenge themselves in the week ahead.

Purple Room

Since our last newsletter item, Purple Room have enjoyed an excursion to Mitchell Shire Council Chambers with the 3/4’s. They really enjoyed the whole day and were very responsible on the train.

They have also participated in Cross Country and saw Mitch Tambo, a visiting indigenous artist, who entertained us with his invigorating energy and knowledge of Country and his own language.

We enjoyed making slime which we presented at assembly on Friday and we use it in class when we need some calm time.

Changing Gears - Getting your Ls Interactive Program

🚗 Get Your L’s: Our Community is Hitting the Road Again!

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of independence that comes with getting your Learner’s Permit. We’ve seen it time and again here at Seymour College—that look of pure pride when a student (or a local parent!) holds up their L-plates for the first time.

After the incredible success of our last session—where we saw eleven of our own students and community members like Amanda, a busy local mum, smash their goals—we are so excited to bring the Changing Gears program back this May.

What’s it all about?

We know that the official road rules can feel like a different language sometimes. That’s why we bring in Nikki, a trainer who has a gift for making things click. Whether it’s through group games, videos, or even standing on one leg to demonstrate how to balance through a turn, Nikki makes sure no one gets left behind.

As Nikki says, "The program isn't just about the road code; it's about showing people how to tackle obstacles and achieve success."

Why this works:

  • A supportive vibe: You’ll be working alongside familiar faces like our Vice Principal Kristie Luckman and our wonderful Teacher’s Aide, Kylie.
  • High success rate: We have a 15-year history of helping people pass who thought they never could.
  • Community first: This isn't just for students. If you’re a local resident who has struggled to get your permit in the past, we want you here.

The Details:

  • When: Monday 25 May – Thursday 28 May 2026
  • Time: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm (We keep it intensive but finish early enough for the school run!)
  • Where: Right here at Seymour College

Ready to join us?

Spots fill up fast, and we’d love to help you get on the road.

Let’s get those L-plates moving!

We have been fortunate to receive a grant to deliver the Changing Gears program for students and community members who are eligible, or close to eligible, to obtain their learner’s permit.

This interactive four-day course will be held at Seymour College.

Dates: Monday 25 May – Thursday 28 May

Time: 10:00am – 2:00pm

If you are interested or further information, please contact Kristie Luckman.
