Secondary

Dear Families
Our Year 12 Student Representative Council has made a strong start to the year, continuing to build an inclusive community where every student feels a sense of belonging. At this week’s Leaders’ Forum, Year 12 SRC hosted Years 7 to 11 Homeroom Leaders, facilitating roundtable conversations, creating a space for meaningful connections between year groups, and nurturing opportunities for student voice and collaboration.
The SRC has also continued its wellbeing focus through Wellbeing Captains, Grace and Elizabeth, who facilitate Let’s Gather activities on Wellbeing Wednesdays to bring students together at lunchtime and build community. An exciting new initiative, JTC Live! newscast was launched at yesterday’s Secondary assembly. Led by Multimedia Captain, Camilla, the Year 12 SRC and the Media Club, JTC Live! will provide regular broadcasts to Homerooms to share information and updates relevant to the student body in a way that’s fun, engaging, and made by students. A sneak peek of the newscast can be viewed below.
Congratulations to Magis students who have competed in recent competitions, particularly the Year 12 Senior Ethics Team who won the bronze medal in the Australasian division of Ethics Olympiad earlier this week.
All the best to our performers at this evening’s Autumn Soiree. Always a highlight of the Music Program, we look forward to a suite of fabulous performances to showcase the talent and passion of our musicians.
Wishing our Year 7 students success at their Winter NAS and Lightning carnivals on Monday as they head to different venues to represent the College in a variety of sports.
Wishing all mothers and mother-figures a wonderful day on Sunday. Hoping that you get to enjoy a special day with your loved ones.
Winter Uniform
A reminder that students will be required to transition to the winter uniform by Monday. The Uniform Code is available below. Staff are guided by the Positive Behaviour Framework to address instances when students do not wear the uniform correctly. Please ensure your child’s uniform fits correctly and that they wear the winter uniform next week.

Parenting today looks very different from a generation ago. We've moved beyond the era of strict, authoritarian approaches, but many parents are left wondering: how do we raise children who are independent, resilient, and emotionally healthy, while still providing the guidance they need? That's exactly what Dr Justin Coulson will explore in this engaging, evidence-based presentation. A father of six, author of nine books on parenting and family life, and co-host of Channel 9's Parental Guidance, Dr Coulson brings warmth, humour, and genuine insight to the topics that matter most to families today.
On the night, you can expect to explore:
- How to better understand your child's emotional needs at every age and stage
- Practical, science-backed strategies to strengthen your relationship with your child
How to create a home environment where children genuinely thrive
This is a wonderful opportunity for our parent community to come together, be inspired, and connect with other families over refreshments afterwards.

Year 12 ATAR Geography Excursion
On Tuesday, 5 May, Year 12 ATAR Geography students attended an excursion to the Western Australian Ecology Centre. The purpose of the excursion was to conduct an inquiry into the restoration activities at the Park and complete fieldwork that complemented their study of biodiversity loss and the impacts of land cover change. Students considered the historic disturbance, the ongoing threats associated with urbanisation, and the importance of urban bushland areas, and explored the use of fieldwork data to monitor restoration success and guide decision-making for the future.
Thank you to Mrs Sarah Williams for accompanying the students on the day.

Senior Eagles Cup (First XVIII)
Round two of the Senior Boys Eagles Cup had our First XVIII Football Team play Shenton College at their home ground. On arrival, burn-offs in the hills and a gentle easterly breeze created a heavy smoke haze drifting across the ground, setting a 'battle scene' vibe and a competitive tone for the afternoon. Our players acquitted themselves very well from the outset, leading by two goals to nil at halftime. Shenton College were no pushovers, however, and after a goal or two for both teams, they drew the score back to one point with successive goals before our JTC mob steadied the ship and arrested momentum back with two more of our own.
The final margin being:
JTC: 7.3, 45
SC: 5.3, 33
Round 3 details:

Venue - John XXIII College

Years 8/9 Boys Eagles Cup Football
The Years 8 and 9 Eagles Cup team travelled to Shenton College on Thursday, 7 May, for an away fixture. Shenton College applied pressure after the break and closed the margin, but the John XXIII side steadied well to secure a deserved victory. Other valuable contributions came from Ben Parker, Oliver French and Ben Murphy.
Final score: John XXIII 4.7, 31 defeated Shenton College 2.3,15
