From the Principal

During the holidays, College Captains Neve and Matt, accompanied by Assistant Deputy Principal Year 12, Luke Bostelman, attended the 2026 Boyd Dinner for Emerging Leaders at UWA. The keynote speaker at the event challenged those in attendance to lean into uncertainty and risk, given that is where growth is found. Interestingly, this would not have been the first time Neve and Matt had heard the same challenge. As many are aware, we often talk about being mindful not to always default to what is comfortable at our College. Instead, what is important is the need to courageously lean into challenge; to grapple with whatever that challenge may be (with appropriate supports, of course), and ultimately benefit from the resultant depth of understanding, including about oneself.
So far this term, there have been numerous opportunities to demonstrate the type of courage that results in significant growth; be that in Performing Arts, through involvement in the College Musical, for example, or sport, most recently in cross-country, or in academic learning more generally.
Most recently, the College has been informed by the Associated Catholic Colleges of WA (ACC) that Year 12 student Sasha Pallis has been awarded ACC Letters in Swimming, Cross-Country and Athletics. This is a significant accomplishment given the ACC Letters Award is the Association’s most prestigious student honour and, for additional context, Sasha is only the second student from any school to be awarded ACC Letters in all three major sports since the inception of the award in 2013. Congratulations Sasha!
During the College’s first major ensembles performance of the year at our Autumn Soiree tonight, our musicians will lean into the real challenge of demonstrating the results of their hard work and dedication to their instrument, ensemble, choir, band or orchestra, with many being courageous enough to perform multiple times. In anticipation of what will no doubt be a wonderful night of musical celebration, we also take the opportunity to acknowledge the staff who expertly create such a supportive environment where stretch and growth are the expectation and true celebration.
Finally, I thank all those who were able to attend our Mothers’ Day Mass this morning and hope all mothers and motherly figures are suitably pampered on Sunday. We also keep a special prayer in our hearts for the families for whom Mothers’ Day is especially challenging and difficult.
