Walk Safely to School Day
On Friday, May 22, it is National Walk to School Day. Now in its 27th year. National Walk to School Day encourages primary school children and their families to walk safely to school. Walking as often as you can builds confidence, improves concentration and establishes healthy habits for life. For families who live a bit farther away, we encourage you to drive part of the way and walk the rest. Families can also scoot or ride! If you would like to walk to school with us please meet at the Peanut Park at 8:15am! Looking forward to seeing you all.
Inform and Empower Term 2
This term, students will once again take part in online safety lessons delivered by Inform & Empower. As part of their Cyber Safety and Digital Wellbeing program, students will participate in a live-streamed incursion focused on developing healthy digital habits.
These sessions are designed to support students in building positive and responsible online behaviours, helping them navigate the digital world with confidence.
The eSafety Commissioner has recognised Inform & Empower as a Trusted eSafety Provider, ensuring the program aligns with current best practices in online safety education.
Below is a brief overview of what will be covered at each level. Once your child has participated in their on line lessons, we will send home a fact sheet for you to discuss at home.
Foundation
Each live stream is 20 minutes in duration. Learning this term will focus on active vs passive screen time. We will explore the difference between creating and consuming whilst considering how this can help us make clever screen time choices.
Year 1/2
Each live stream is 30 minutes in duration. Learning this term will focus on the importance of balancing screen time with green time, the value of healthy sleep habits, and why it can be hard to put our devices down.
Year 3/4
Each live stream is 40 minutes in duration. Learning this term will focus on screen time, how it makes us feel and its effects on sleep. We will also investigate the importance of balancing screen time with green time.
Year 5/6
Each live stream is 50 minutes in duration. Learning this term will focus on building a healthy relationship with devices. We will also explore the benefits of green time, the importance of sleep and the impacts of excessive screen time.
Internet Safety
Many children and young people enjoy online gaming, from simple puzzle games to more complex multiplayer experiences, and even creating their own virtual worlds.
Gaming can offer a range of benefits. It can help develop coordination, problem-solving, and multitasking skills. Many games also include social features, allowing children to connect and collaborate with others, which can support the development of communication and teamwork skills.
Playing games together can also be a great way for families to bond and share interests. At the same time, it’s important for parents and carers to be aware of potential risks and to understand how to help keep their child safe while gaming online.
