The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open and St Brigid’s is excited to be participating again in 2026.   The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to Year 10 in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. This year’s theme is ‘Stories to discover. Stories to tell’ and is all about discovering new books, and a love of reading. It is not a competition, but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by 4th September 2026.

Children from Foundation to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents. Children from Year 3 to Year 6 are challenged to read 15 books.

Please note that a percentage of these books need to be read from the books listed on the Challenge Booklist.

All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and former Premiers.

To read the Premier’s letter to parents, view the booklists and for more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge, visit: Premiers' Reading Challenge | vic.gov.au

All students will be given a login and password for the challenge, however, please note that this is a home challenge only and not compulsory.  It is an invitation for families that wish to participate at home.

Login details for your child will be sent home this week in their school diaries/reading records.

We look forward to seeing the total number of books the students at St Brigid’s can read in this time and we will post regular updates in our school newsletter.

Please click the link to the home page and follow the instructions provided below. Home page

It is important when navigating the system you click on “sign in” under “School Coorindator/Students”. Then you must click on “VPRC - Catholic Schools” to login. If you click on EDUPASS - your child’s login details won’t work.

Happy Reading!

Mathematics Learning

Strong mathematics learning begins with building confidence and fluency.

At St Brigid’s, we use evidence-based teaching approaches that focus on regular practice, revisiting learning, and developing automatic recall to support long-term success. In Years 3-6, students strengthen their skills through Timetable Rockstars, while our junior students take part in daily written fluency activities. All students F-6 also practise a range of mental and written strategies as part of their everyday learning. As students become more confident with key skills, they are better able to focus on deeper thinking, problem-solving, and reasoning in mathematics.

The 2 images show the growth in one of our classes from the start of the Year to now in multiplication and division! We are very proud of all our students and their individual successes.
