Sustainability Leadership Summit

On Thursday 7th May, our two Junior School captains, Phoebe B (JSK) and Aden P (JSL) attended a Sustainability Leadership Summit at Springvale Town Hall. The event was hosted by the City of Greater Dandenong and CERES. There were approximately 60 students from 10 schools in the area.
Prior to the Summit, we completed a sustainability audit. Emerson ranked highly in the areas of waste and biodiversity!
First, students drew their vision for 2040. Next, they participated in workshops on waste, energy and biodiversity.
In the waste workshop, students learned about the difference between linear and circular product cycles. In the biodiversity workshop students made a tube out of newspaper and planted a Warragul green to take back to their school.
Finally, Aden and Phoebe created an action plan to make the Junior School more sustainable.
Aden and Phoebe enjoyed working with peers from other schools and look forward to implementing their plan with the support of their SRC peers next term.
