This week has been another busy and rewarding one at Emerson School, with several wonderful events highlighting the achievements, participation and community spirit of our students and staff.
On Thursday afternoon, we proudly hosted the 2026 Emerson Careers Expo, which was a tremendous success. We welcomed 64 parents and 22 service providers, creating a valuable opportunity for families to connect with organisations that support students as they transition from school into adulthood and further pathways. A particularly informative session was delivered by NDIS representatives, who spoke about recent government policy updates and explained the funding supports available to families during this important transition period.
One of the most pleasing aspects of the afternoon was the consistent feedback from service providers, who commented on the politeness of our students and how much they enjoy returning to Emerson School. It is always wonderful to hear such positive reflections from members of the wider community, and it speaks volumes about the culture we continue to build together. We congratulate our students on their polite manner.
Thursday morning saw our Annual House Cross Country take place. It was fantastic to witness the enthusiasm, participation and encouragement shown throughout the event. There were plenty of smiles, great sportsmanship and a genuine sense of pride from students as they challenged themselves and celebrated their achievements. A huge thank you must go to Thomas Hutching, the Sports Team and all staff involved in organising and supporting the event. Their dedication and teamwork are essential in ensuring these events run so smoothly and successfully.
Our Junior Captains also represented Emerson School at the Leadership Summit this week, where they completed a sustainability audit. I am very pleased to share that Emerson School ranked highly in the areas of waste management and biodiversity. The summit, led by Chris Winter, provided students with an excellent opportunity to further develop their leadership skills while exploring ways schools can positively contribute to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Last Friday, Chris Winter represented Emerson School at the VIS Para Sport Unit Allied Health Forum in Melbourne. Emerson was invited to attend this exciting event, which explored the many opportunities and pathways available for Para athletes across Victoria. The forum provided valuable insights into the VIS Para Sport Unit, Paralympics Australia, athlete classification and the important role allied health professionals play in supporting athletes to achieve their goals. With many of our students actively involved in Para sport, it was a fantastic opportunity to further our understanding of the pathways available and continue supporting students to pursue their passions and potential, particularly as we look ahead to the Brisbane Olympics and Paralympics in 2032.
Thank you to our staff, students and families for continuing to make Emerson School such a supportive, engaged and positive community.
