Our Learning - Weeks 5 & 6

The Outcomes are based on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF). The VEYLDF is a curriculum framework designed for early childhood education in Victoria, focusing on children birth to eight years.

Outcome 1: Children have a strong sense of identity

The children are developing a strong sense of identity within the kindergarten, showing confidence in who they are as learners and members of the group. They are beginning to recognise and express their interests, strengths, and preferences during play and group experiences. Through positive interactions with peers and educators, they are building a sense of belonging and security, while also showing growing awareness and respect for others.

Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world

Rooms are set up with recycling stations for old markers, foil, soft plastics, and papers. Children are able to sort rubbish into these categories and once these bins are full, are taught the correct way to recycle the materials.

Outcome 3: Children have a strong sense of wellbeing

There is a strong focus on building independence, with children confidently bringing in their own bags, unpacking their belongings, and following the morning routine. They are increasingly taking responsibility for caring for their personal items and the kindergarten environment. Educators support this by encouraging children to attempt tasks independently, fostering problem-solving skills and providing guidance through clear visual and verbal steps when needed.

Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners

Over the past fortnight, children have been exploring patterns in nature, with a particular focus on spirals found in shells, plants, and other natural materials. Through observation and hands-on investigation, children are beginning to recognise, describe, and recreate these patterns using a variety of materials. They have also been introduced to the concept of weight, where they have been experimenting with balancing, comparing, and testing objects to see which are heavier or lighter. These experiences are encouraging children to ask questions, make predictions, and test their ideas, supporting their problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and confidence as active learner

Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators

Children are beginning to use a range of symbols in their artwork and early writing to convey meaning. They are increasingly exploring mark-making and experimenting with letters, with some children beginning to recognise and write their own names. Through drawing, painting, and creative expression, they are using visual symbols to represent ideas, experiences, and stories. These early literacy experiences are supporting children to understand that marks and symbols carry meaning, building a strong foundation for emerging writing skills and confident communication in both creative and social contexts.
