Positive Behaviour for Learning
At Peakhurst Public School we strive to have a school community that are safe, respectful, responsible active learners. Our Positive Behaviour for Learning is a framework to support schools to identify and successfully implement evidenced-based whole-school practices that enhance learning outcomes for children and young people.
Successful implementation comes when there is commitment from staff, students and community to discuss, reflect and engage in the expected behaviour focus.
Data from across the school indicates ongoing challenges in building resilience and managing conflict without resorting to physical aggression, particularly during unstructured play times.
Our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) programs are integrated within the Care Continuum framework, focusing on prevention and early intervention to support positive behaviour. These programs are tailored to our school’s specific context and address the behaviours observed.
The Department of Education offers a range of supports for schools and communities to foster safe, supportive, and restorative learning environments. At Peakhurst Public School, our PBL Team, Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO), and Learning and Support Team work collaboratively to provide students with the assistance they need. When required, the school may also engage additional support through the Team Around School initiative, which complements our Learning and Support Team and supports a network of local schools.
We encourage families to inform the school if their child has been affected by the behaviour of others. The first point of contact is your child’s classroom teacher, who works closely with your child daily. Early reporting enables the school to respond promptly and effectively, helping to minimise further impact.
