Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
It is all about RESPECT
At Goondiwindi State School, respect is at the core of our GREAT Expectations and is a non-negotiable value of our school community. We explicitly teach and model respect every day through the way we speak, learn, work and interact with one another. We expect all students, staff and families to act respectfully and work together to create a safe, positive and supportive environment where everyone can thrive.
Tone and phrasing matter and help children learn how to communicate respectfully with others.
For example, you can encourage your child to say:
- “Can you please help me?” instead of “Do it for me.”
- Ask, instead of stating -"I don't have a hat." to " Do you have a spare hat please?"
- “I’m feeling frustrated” instead of yelling or using hurtful words
- “I see it differently” instead of arguing aggressively
These small language choices help build respectful relationships and strong communication skills for life.
Lesson of the Week: Give Your Best - Using Your Inner Coach
Wearing our Uniforms
At Goondiwindi State School, one way we show respect is by wearing our school uniform with pride.
Our uniform helps students:
- Feel part of the school team
- Build a sense of belonging
- Show pride in our school
Represent our school positively in the community
As winter approaches, please ensure students have:
- A school jumper
- Green track pants for colder mornings
Families can also check with the tuckshop regarding second-hand jumpers, available for approximately $2 while stock lasts. PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING!
We also encourage students to change out of their school uniform after school where possible, helping keep uniforms looking neat and respectful for the next school day.
Whatever you do, do well!
At Goondiwindi State School, each week at assembly we proudly say our school motto: “Whatever you do, do well.”, Age Quod Agis. As a school, we have been reflecting on what this really looks like in action. For me as a teacher, it means being all in, every day. I encourage you to talk to about what this means to you and your family.
At school it means giving your best in learning, showing respect to others, acting safely, working together, and finding enjoyment in school life.
Whether in the classroom, playground, sporting field or community, we encourage our students to take pride in doing the little things well and living our GREAT Expectations every day. It is GREAT at Gundy State because we live our moto.
