 Our Art Room

You may have noticed that the Art Room looks a little different recently, and your children may have mentioned having Art classes in an alternative space. At present, the Art storeroom is undergoing repairs due to ongoing water damage issues. As a result, there may be some temporary disruptions and adjustments to the Art program this term.

We would like to acknowledge and thank the students for the patience and flexibility they have shown during this time, particularly as they are accustomed to a busy and engaging Art program. We will continue to keep families informed as further updates become available.

"Ish" theory

To start the term, the students learnt about the "ish" theory. This is from a book of the same name. The book encourages students to make their drawing -ish; tree-ish, dog-ish, house-ish. It encourages children to avoid striving for perfection and to just get close enough. Too often, children are hard on themselves for not getting it "just right". These lessons challenged children to just enjoy the process, as opposed to the end result.

We drew pictures and painted them.  The students loved having the freedom to paint a picture of their choosing. Here are some photos of our amazing artists, hard at work:

Grade 1/2

Students have been learning about different textures, shapes and colours and how we can use these in our Art. We have been using objects found in our playground to create art. Last week we created sculptures using sticks. This week we are making bracelets with items foraged in nature. We talked about looking for different colours, shapes and textures. The children loved wandering around the yard, creating art slowly and carefully.

The 3/4 houses have been fired and are ready to be painted. We will do this when we have access to the Art room again.
