Prep - In Term Two, students are focusing on chemical sciences - the study of substances. They will be investigating what objects are made of. During the last two weeks, students have focused on sorting different objects and identifying the materials they are made of. We have discussed that materials have properties which make them different to other materials. Students have spent time investigating if different objects are hard or soft using their sense of touch.

Year 1/2s - In Term Two, students are focusing on physical sciences - the study of non-living things. They will be investigating sound energy and how different sounds are produced. During the last two weeks, students have conducted an investigation about how sound travels through different materials. They learned about volume and pitch and made predictions about which materials they thought would be the loudest and the quietest. Students then tested a variety of materials by tapping them with a metal spoon to compare their volume and pitch.

Year 3/4s - In Term Two, students are focusing on physical sciences - the study of non-living things. They will be investigating heat energy and how it is generated and transferred. During the last two weeks, students have focused on different heat sources and grouping them by type (chemical energy, combustion, electrical energy, friction, geothermal energy, kinetic energy). They have also completed an investigation to predict and measure the temperature of different materials using a digital thermometer..

Year 5/6s - In Term Two, students are focusing on physical sciences - the study of non-living things. They will be investigating light energy and how it travels and changes. During the last two weeks, students have focused on transparency - how much light passes through different materials. They also completed an investigation on light refraction to see how it created optical illusions when placing items in or behind a jar of water.
