Respectful Relationships Focus
Over the next five weeks, our whole school will be exploring Personal and Cultural Strengths as part of the Victorian Curriculum Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships program.
Personal and cultural strengths are the qualities, values, traditions and experiences that make each of us unique. These strengths help shape who we are, how we see the world, and how we connect with others in our community.
Learning about personal and cultural strengths helps children develop a strong sense of identity and belonging. It also encourages respect and appreciation for the diverse backgrounds, cultures and experiences that make up our school community.
Across all year levels, students will participate in age-appropriate lessons that explore:
- Identifying their own personal strengths, interests and qualities
- Recognising the strengths and talents of others
- Exploring family backgrounds, traditions and cultural identities
- Understanding how diversity strengthens our community
- Celebrating similarities and differences in respectful ways
You may hear your child talking about things they are proud of, sharing stories about their family or culture, or recognising strengths they see in their classmates.
Working Together With Families
Children develop a strong sense of identity when their strengths and backgrounds are valued both at school and at home. You might support this learning by:
- Talking about the strengths you see in your child
- Sharing family traditions, stories or cultural experiences
- Encouraging your child to recognise strengths in others
- Celebrating what makes your family unique
By recognising and valuing personal and cultural strengths, we are helping students build confidence, respect for diversity and a strong sense of belonging within our school community.
We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with families as we explore this important learning together.
Year 5 Camp
This week, our Year 5 students headed off to camp for an exciting few days filled with fun, challenge and plenty of adventure. Students took part in a wide range of Summit Camp activities including the giant swing, high ropes, bush challenge, night walk and orienteering, where they worked together to solve riddles. A highlight was finishing with the Mud Run in beautiful sunshine—messy, challenging and lots of fun!
Throughout camp, students “super stretched” themselves, stepping outside their comfort zones and supporting one another every step of the way. It has been wonderful to see so many proud smiles and great moments of encouragement, with students also recognising each other’s efforts through GMC (Great Moments at Camp).
A big thank you to our wonderful parent helpers, Luke Kelly, Gemma Nolan and Elva Hehir. Your support, hard work and enthusiasm have been invaluable and greatly appreciated.
We are incredibly proud of our Grade 5 students, who have shown determination, resilience and teamwork while proudly representing our school values.
