Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is now open! Students are encouraged to take part in this exciting opportunity to read widely, explore different genres, and strengthen their literacy skills. The challenge promotes a lifelong love of reading while helping students build confidence and imagination. Families can support students by reading together and celebrating each completed book. We encourage all students to participate and enjoy the journey through stories, knowledge and creativity.

Read a certain number of books

During the Challenge, a student will read a certain number of books that are suitable for them. While the number of books can be varied for a student, the general guidance is:

  • Year 7 to Year 9: Read a total of 15 books, with 10 or more of those books from the Challenge book list.
  • Year 10: Read a total of 15 books, with 5 or more of those books from the Challenge book list.

Once a student has completed the Challenge, books need to be verified by a teacher or parent/carer. Following the verification, students that have completed the Challenge will receive a Certificate of Completion in Term 4.

READ FOR HOUSE POINTS AT BRIGIDINE CAMPUS IN 2026!

Love reading? Why not earn House Points while discovering great books?

Students in Years 10–12 are invited to take part in the Brigidine Campus 2026 Read for House Points Competition.

Students can earn:

  • Up to 10 House Points for the first book borrowed and read as part of the competition - a special 'Jump On Board' bonus!
  • Additional Academic Colours – Student Recognition Program points
  • Up to 5 House Points for each additional novel read throughout the competition

To encourage quality reading and broad participation, there is a limit to the number of books that can count toward House Points per student and per House each term.

Books selected for the competition must be personal reading choices and cannot be part of class coursework or assessment at St Joseph’s.

Choose something that interests you:

  • True Stories
  • Life Skills
  • Or any title from the Fiction collection

Reading is one of the best ways to relax, explore new ideas, build empathy, and develop lifelong learning habits. We hope this competition inspires students to discover books they genuinely enjoy and develop a lasting love of reading.

If you have any questions or would like help choosing a book, please speak with Mr Cohn or Mrs Chisholm in the Library.

Happy reading!
