Morning Active Clubs
We are excited to announce some fantastic new morning club opportunities for our students! Following the incredible success of our Newlands Unidos Basketball Club, which has seen strong student participation, growing excitement and students proudly representing our school, we are now exploring ways to expand our before-school opportunities and give students even more chances to move, learn and have fun!
The response to our basketball program has shown us how valuable these opportunities can be. Students have loved starting the day being active, connecting with friends and developing new skills before even stepping into the classroom. Starting the day with movement and exercise can help improve concentration, boost energy levels, support wellbeing and help students arrive at school feeling positive and ready to learn.
We are currently exploring interest in the following morning clubs:
Tennis (held at Dunstan Reserve) - This has unfortunately reached capacity
Wrestling
Soccer
Basketball
Zumba
All clubs will run from 8:00am–8:45am on different days of the week. Information about the proposed days for each club can be found by scanning the QR codes attached. At this stage, we are gathering expressions of interest from families to help us understand demand and support our planning.
We also have something exciting coming up!
On Monday of Week 7 (1st June), we will be offering a special Morning Clubs Introduction Session in the school gym from 8:00am–8:30am. Students will have the chance to try some of the activities, meet some of the providers and experience a taste of what our clubs may look like.
To make things even more exciting, students will also have the opportunity to complete fun challenges during the session to earn exclusive discounts for their first month fee when joining one of the clubs. Please note that these discounts will be limited, so students will need to bring their energy and give it their best effort!
We are also excited to announce that next week our students from Grades 1–6 will participate in a one-off wrestling lesson during their PE session. This experience is designed to give students an opportunity to try the sport, learn some basic skills and movements, and see whether wrestling is something they enjoy before deciding if they may be interested in joining the morning wrestling club in the future. We are excited to give students the opportunity to experience something new in a fun, safe and engaging environment.
To celebrate the start of this exciting experience, there will also be a special wrestling performance during first recess on Monday next week. We encourage students to come along, watch and enjoy the show!
More detailed information, including registration details and costs, will be shared soon.
We cannot wait to continue building an active, healthy and connected school community at Newlands!
