5/6 Classrooms

Year 5 & 6 Team News 🌟
What an incredibly busy and productive few weeks it has been in the Senior School! Our Year 5 and 6 students have been working exceptionally hard, showing fantastic dedication across all areas of their learning. Here is a snapshot of what we’ve been up to:
🌪️ Diving Deep into Natural Disasters
Students have been channeling their inner scientists and geographers to complete their comprehensive work on natural disasters. To organize their brilliant ideas, we introduced the TIDE planner—be sure to ask your child tonight how it works! We used this framework to build a collaborative classroom text, and the students are now gearing up to create individual planners based on a natural disaster of their own choosing.
¡Hola desde la clase de Español!
In Spanish, our students have been diving into the world of biographies. They have been learning about the lives of extraordinary people from all over the globe—including famous soccer players, artists, actresses, and writers. To help tell these stories, students have mastered:
- Essential biography vocabulary
- Personal pronouns and past-tense verbs
- Connectors to link their ideas smoothly
🔢 Maths Tier 2 Wrap-Up
This week marks the conclusion of our Maths Tier 2 program. For this unit, students were grouped across the cohort based on ability, allowing teachers to deliver highly targeted lessons tailored specifically to each student's current needs.
Our focus has been entirely on Fractions, and the students have tackled some challenging concepts! Over the past few weeks, they have worked hard learning how to:
- Convert between mixed numbers and improper fractions
- Locate and plot different fractions accurately on a number line
- Compare and order fractions from smallest to largest
- Calculate a fraction of a collection (e.g., finding 2\3 of 24 objects)
We are incredibly proud of how hard everyone worked in their respective groups to level up their math skills!
💻 Staying Safe Online
On Wednesday, May 13th, we were visited by a policewoman from the Preston Police Station for a vital presentation on Cyber Safety. Students learned about the critical importance of protecting their personal information online. Through real-world examples and engaging videos, they discovered what to avoid sharing on the internet and, most importantly, why. It was a powerful reminder to be responsible digital citizens.
🏃♂️ Today: The Colores Run!
The excitement in the corridors today is absolutely real! We are wrapping up the week with the highly anticipated Colores Run. Students (and teachers!) cannot wait to hit the track and get covered in a rainbow of bright colors.
Our senior students will also be stepping up as leaders today, keeping a close eye on their Prep buddies to ensure our youngest school members feel safe, supported, and have an absolute blast.
Thank you to all our families for your ongoing support. Have a wonderful weekend!
