Leadership Report

Well, has it been a day of colour at Newlands Primary School! The amount of joy that sunglasses, headbands and being absolutely covered in colour could bring to our students was incredible to see. On top of all the fun, our amazing PFA raised over $44,000 from the event, which is an absolutely phenomenal achievement. As you will see throughout this week’s classroom reports, there has already been plenty happening around the school, so I will keep my report short and sweet!
Salsa Dancing Tonight! – 6:00pm
The incredible Spanish Sub Committee are once again giving up their time to teach our community how to dance. While it may have helped me more in my younger years, better late than never! These sessions are always filled with fun, laughter and great energy, and I cannot recommend them enough. The gym opens at 6:00pm, with the hips officially beginning to move at 6:30pm.
Spanglish – Helping You Keep Up With Your Kids! – Sunday 2:45pm
Is your child suddenly understanding another language while you sit there nodding along with absolutely no idea what is going on? Well, once again our wonderful Spanish Sub Committee are donating their time to teach the non-Spanish speakers…Spanish! These sessions are always a fantastic time, filled with laughs, food and enough confidence to make you feel ready to travel to Spain without Google Translate after one session. This may be a slight exaggeration.
Tuesday 26th May – National Sorry Day
National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge and reflect on the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly the Stolen Generations. It is an opportunity for all Australians to learn from the past, show respect, and continue working towards healing, reconciliation and a more inclusive future. Throughout the week, Newlands will engage in a range of learning experiences to ensure Indigenous Perspectives remain at the forefront of student learning and discussion.
Sunday 31st May – Working Bee
This is the time we ask for your help. We have seen you laughing at Movie Night, enjoying the music at the Fiesta and devouring the food at the Welcome Picnic — now we need a little giving back!
We have our first Working Bee for the year and we would love as many helping hands as possible. There is plenty to do: installing reo into garden beds, repainting the portico, weeding, repainting decks and giving parts of the school some much-needed love. Ultimately, we cannot continue making our school the incredible place it is without the support of our community.
Monday 1st June – We are Active, We are Newlands Launch
We mentioned it at last week’s assembly, and you may have already spotted the posters around the school, but in Term 3 we are launching a huge range of new before-school activities.
To give families a taste of what is on offer, Raul is running his own version of an Orientation Day. Beginning at 8:00am, students and families will have the chance to shoot hoops, hit some tennis balls, participate in wrestling drills, kick a soccer ball and even join in a quick Diego Zumba performance. There will also be cheese toasties and prizes, including $50 discounts for some of the morning sports activities. It should be a fantastic morning and a great opportunity to see what Term 3 has in store at Newlands.
Have a fantastic weekend!
Luke
