An afternoon with Antoni Gaudí

At Spanish Club this week, we explored the colourful world of Gaudí and his famous trencadís mosaic technique. We began with a short presentation about Gaudí’s life and unique artistic style. We learnt how he transformed broken tiles into beautiful works of art, including the big lizard at the entrance of Park Güell in Barcelona. Then it was manos a la obra / hands on! Students used different materials to create their own vibrant mosaic masterpieces. To make the artworks even more artistic and unique, we enriched this technique by adding antique pieces, broken keyrings, beads, and other decorative materials.

The group was full of energy and creativity, and their finished pieces looked fantastic by the end of the session, even if there was tile grout, and tile pieces absolutely everywhere! A huge thank you to our wonderful Spanish Club members and supportive parents who helped keep the children engaged, focused, and happy throughout the session. It was messy, creative fun at its best, and everyone went home proud of their beautiful mosaic creations!

If anyone wants to try something like this at home, here’s a video from Bunnings that can be of help:

¡Nos vemos la semana que viene!
