Senior School Update

Year 11 Camp

In week two, our Year 11 students enjoyed an action-packed and highly valuable four-day Careers Camp in Melbourne, exploring future pathways, university life and strengthening connections as a cohort.

Students toured RMIT, Swinburne, Deakin and Monash universities, gaining firsthand insight into tertiary study options and campus life. Our VCE VM students also visited ACMI and participated in a powerful homelessness tour with the Salvation Army, building empathy and social awareness through real-world learning experiences.

The camp also included a CBD scavenger hunt, ice skating at O’Brien Icehouse, the Prison Island challenge activity, and an unforgettable AFL clash between Collingwood and Hawthorn at the MCG, which finished in a thrilling draw!

The experience concluded with a visit to the VCE and Careers Expo, where students connected with universities, TAFEs, employers and industry representatives from across Australia.

A huge thank you to the staff who accompanied the camp and supported students throughout the week. It was wonderful to see our students embrace every opportunity and represent the school so positively.

Project Ready CPE Excursion

Our Year 10 Project Ready students recently headed off-site for a valuable industry tour at CPE Construction, gaining first-hand insight into vocational pathways and workplace practices within the construction industry.

During the visit, students heard from several of CPE’s newest apprentices, who shared their experiences and reflected on how their school pathways helped lead them into the careers they are building today. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to learn more about the wide range of opportunities available through vocational education and training pathways.

With workplace health and safety recently forming a key focus within the Project Ready program, the excursion also provided students with an excellent real-world understanding of how workers safely operate tools, equipment and machinery in an active workplace environment.

We extend a sincere thank you to Amanda for generously taking the time to tour our students through the facility and share her knowledge and experiences with them. Opportunities such as these play an important role in helping students connect classroom learning with future career possibilities.

Careers Day Out

On Thursday 7 May, our Year 9 cohort and Year 10 Project Ready students attended Careers Day Out at the Shepparton Showgrounds — one of the largest education, training and employment expos in Northern Victoria.

Students had a fantastic opportunity to explore future pathways, engage with industry exhibitors, participate in hands-on activities and discover the many career and training opportunities available across our region. It was wonderful to see our students asking questions, exploring their interests and thinking positively about the exciting possibilities ahead of them!

Welcoming the Kelly's to Cobram AGS

At the commencement of Term 2, we welcomed Brooke and Jamie Kelly to our Senior School teaching team. It's been fantastic to have this husband and wife duo on board and they were kind enough to answer a few questions so our school families can get to know them a little better!

Brooke:

1. What is your teaching experience and what brings you to our school?

I have been teaching for 20 years across a range of year levels and subjects. I was drawn to Cobram Anglican Grammar for its strong sense of community and values, which align closely with my approach to teaching.

2. What are you currently teaching at Cobram AGS and are there other subjects you can teach?

I am currently teaching Year 8, 10 and 11 English. I have also taught History, Business Management, Health and Human Development, and Humanities across Years 7–11.

3. What is the best thing about being a teacher and why?

The most rewarding part of teaching is seeing students grow in confidence and ability and knowing you’ve played a role in their development.

4. What are your first impressions of our school now that you are a couple of weeks into the job? The staff have been very welcoming and supportive, and the students are friendly and respectful. There is a strong sense of community and a positive atmosphere.

Jamie:

What is your teaching experience and what brings you to our school?

I have been teaching for 17 years across public and independent schools. Most of my career was spent at Wanganui Park Secondary College. Cobram Anglican Grammar School appealed to me for its experienced leadership and focus on ensuring all students have a pathway to further study or employment. The school's new Trade Centre strengthens this commitment, so it’s a great time to join the team.

What are you currently teaching at Cobram AGS and are there other subjects you can teach?

I’m currently teaching Year 8 English, Media, Learning with Technology and RAVE. I also have Year 9/10 Media. English is my main method followed by Economics and Business Management. I have experience teaching other humanities subjects such as History, Geography, Sociology and Politics.

What is the best thing about being a teacher and why?

The best part of the gig is seeing students develop skills and knowledge to achieve their goals.

What are your fist impressions of our school now that you are a couple of weeks into the job?

All the staff are welcoming and supportive. There is also a genuine community feel across the school community. Every school tries to establish this, however, few do it so successfully. You could also say “it’s the vibe”.
