SEL-ebration Day Success

On Tuesday, our students participated in a highly successful SEL-ebration Day, spending time revisiting and strengthening their understanding of important social and emotional learning concepts through a range of engaging, hands-on activities.

Throughout the day, students explored the Hand Model of the Brain and developed a deeper understanding of the different parts of the brain, including the Survival Brain, Emotional Brain and Thinking Brain, and how these work together when we are regulated. Students discussed real-life scenarios and considered questions such as: Which part of the brain might be most active? What feelings might this person experience? Would their thinking brain be fully available? What could help reconnect the whole brain? They then sorted scenarios into categories including Survival Brain, Emotional Brain, Thinking Brain and Whole Brain Working Together.

Students also revisited the concepts of regulation and dysregulation through a series of rope knot challenges. These activities encouraged students to reflect on how pressure and emotions can affect their thinking, behaviour and ability to work with others. Through guided discussions, students explored how their bodies and minds responded to challenges and identified strategies that helped them stay focused and regulated.

Other learning experiences throughout the day focused on Effective and Respons-able Behaviour, Regulation Through Connection, Rhythm and Collaboration. To conclude the day, students worked together to create and participate in trivia quizzes, showcasing the knowledge and understanding they had developed.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for students to work with peers from across the school. The mixed-age group activities fostered positive relationships, strengthened connections between students and provided valuable opportunities for collaboration, leadership and teamwork.

We are incredibly proud of the way our students engaged with the learning, supported one another and demonstrated the social and emotional skills that help create a positive and inclusive school community.

Lost Property Reminder

Our lost property collection is continuing to grow, with a large number of jumpers and jackets currently waiting to be reunited with their owners.

To help us return items quickly, we encourage families to ensure that all clothing, lunchboxes, drink bottles and other personal belongings are clearly labelled with your child's name. Named items can often be returned to students promptly, while unnamed items are much more difficult to identify.

Families are welcome to check the lost property area, which is located outside the canteen. We encourage students and parents/carers to regularly look through the collection, particularly as the cooler weather means more jumpers and jackets are being worn and misplaced.

Thank you for your support in helping us keep lost property to a minimum.
