FRIDAY FORTNIGHTLY ASSEMBLIES

Gallery Image

Our assemblies every second Friday are a real highlight and a wonderful forum to see and hear about some of the strengths of our school. Last week we had some amazing performances on the piano by Aston K, Sarina G, Emma Dand Maaziyar S.

A few weeks ago our school choir also performed. On top of that we celebrate the effort and achievement of students across the school including sports, the arts and of course our special principals award. Our Junior School Council provide an update, and we hear about all the things our Year 5 & 6 Action Teams are organising.

Over the course of this year, every Year 6 student will get the opportunity to host an assembly. This initiative is designed to promote a broader sense of leadership across this cohort and provide valuable practice and skills in speaking and listening and organisation. These students are presented with their “Engage” badge to recognise both their effort and organisation.

Thank you to Lynsey Barrett our staff member who works to supports our students with organising and running their assemblies.

CULTURAL AWARENESS & UNDERSTANDING DAY – WE ARE ALL IN!

Next Monday 22 June, Greenhills Primary School will hold a special Cultural Understanding Day – We Are All In!

This day will provide students with an opportunity to learn, celebrate and acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and perspectives through meaningful experiences and activities.

Throughout the day, students will participate in a range of engaging learning experiences designed to develop their understanding, appreciation and respect for the diverse cultures that make up our school, local community and wider world. Activities will encourage curiosity, empathy and inclusivity while helping students recognise and celebrate diversity and strengthen our commitment to creating a respectful and welcoming school community for all.

As part of the day, students will work together in their house teams and are encouraged to proudly wear their Greenhills house tops. We are also excited to welcome back Emma Bamblett, who will share her inspiring artist journey and speak about the stories and meaning behind our Greenhills house tops. Emma’s connection to culture and storytelling continues to play a key role within our school community, and we look forward to learning from her once again. We are also excited for our students to engage in a special performance at the ends of the day.

BREAKFAST CLUB – EVERYONE WELCOME

Our Breakfast Club is a wonderful way for students to start the day with a healthy breakfast and a friendly chat. Proudly supported by Foodbank Victoria and the Victorian Government's School Breakfast Clubs Program, Breakfast Club is free and open to all Greenhills students.

Each term, our Year 5/6 Action Team students take on leadership roles in running the program, supported by our Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader, Jess Johnston. More than just providing a nutritious breakfast, Breakfast Club helps build connections across our school community, creating a welcoming space where students can socialise, feel included, and begin the day ready to learn.

The date for our next breakfast club will be sent out shortly and we encourage all students to come along and enjoy a positive start to their day.

Our Year 5 & 6 Action Teams are in full swing. These groups meet each Friday at 12.30pm and focus on students developing their leadership skills via collaborating on various actions or projects. A G.R.E.A.T. example of this in “action” was our Bake Sale which our Community Action Team organised and ran last Friday. What an awesome effort with over $800 raised for the Royal Children’s Hospital. Thank you to all families that supported this initiative by baking a delicious treat to sell or lining up patiently to purchase something. Keep your eyes out for more action team action this year.

CURRICULUM DAY – AUGUST 17TH

Monday 17th of August is a School Council-approved Curriculum Day. Students will not be required to attend school on this day.

This Curriculum Day will provide an important opportunity for our staff to continue developing and implementing the Greenhills Responsive Teaching and Learning Model. Through collaborative professional learning, teachers will further refine their understanding of evidence-based teaching practices, curriculum planning, and responsive approaches that support every student to achieve success.

Investing time in high-quality professional learning strengthens our collective capacity as educators and ensures we continue to provide engaging, effective, and responsive learning experiences for all students.

We thank families for your support and look forward to sharing more about our ongoing work in this area throughout the year.

We can also confirm that Teamkids will run a full day program on Monday 17th August from 6.45am to 6.30pm.
