Leave Nothing Undared : Learning for Life
As our Year 10, 11 and 12 students conclude their recent examinations, it’s important that we acknowledge all their efforts, but also reflect more deeply on what such experiences represent in the broader journey of their development and lives.
Examinations, in their truest sense, aren’t only measures of knowledge retained, they’re also opportunities for self-awareness in moments where perseverance, discipline and character are tested alongside content. For those students following flexible and alternative pathways, this time remains equally significant as they have consolidated learning, engaged in work placements and prepared with intention for what lies ahead. Similarly, for our Year 7, 8 and 9 students who will have projects, tests and assessments in the coming weeks, we pray that each student seizes the opportunity to fulfil their potential.
Much learning takes place in classrooms across our entire College each day. Much learning takes place in our Cebula Boarding community, at weekly training sessions, in Music rooms, on our sporting fields, in our school yard, on four-square courts and in our Chapel. Regardless of which year your son is in, it’s timely for us to remember that learning is a life-long journey because of the possibilities it has the power create. Learning involves the acquisition of knowledge, in addition to coming to a confidence in knowing oneself and one’s place in the world.
In the fullness of our faith and Oblate tradition, education is less about outcomes and far more about becoming a full human being. When our young men come to ‘learn who they are in the eyes of God’ they bring hopes, anxieties and aspirations for the future. This learning, while seldom smooth and often challenging, contributes to the formation of young men who will go on to serve others and make meaningful contributions to their communities.
Most importantly, no single result or grade will ever define the invaluable worth of every single young man at Mazenod College.
Learning for young people isn’t always comfortable, and it certainly isn’t always easy. But the process of learning is important, and sometimes the challenge it comes with makes the learning far more valuable. We are privileged partners with parents and carers in the full, rich and holistic education of your sons, and we remain confident in their future and hopeful in their aspirations.
‘Leave Nothing Undared for the Kingdom of God’
God Bless. Our community remains always in my prayers.
