RRRR

Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships

Grade 6

This term in Grade 6 within our social and emotional learning sessions, we have been diving into practical real world scenarios to develop students' positive coping and problem-solving skills! As our Grade 6s begin to prepare for high school, mastering these skills is super important for tackling conflicts and knowing when to seek help during this transitional time of their lives.

Our students have been on a journey to boost their emotional and practical resilience. They have been exploring how to identify and understand their own and others' emotions, manage stress with healthy coping strategies and confidently seek help when needed. To ensure all students can engage and access the activities, a variety of techniques have been utilised. For example, role-playing, collaboratively unpacking scenarios, identifying valuable support networks, mindfulness techniques and guided relaxation. Therefore, they're not just learning—they're developing their self-regulation, communication, confidence, resilience and teamwork skills. But that’s not all! They’re also becoming problem-solving pros. From identifying issues and brainstorming creative solutions to making decisions and reflecting on outcomes, they’re learning every step of the way.

The Grade 6 teaching team have emphasised that everyone has their own best way of dealing with problems, and it’s super helpful to have some steps to follow which are taught through the RRRR lessons and mindfulness. These lessons are all about creating a supportive environment and equipping our students with the tools they need for emotional intelligence and effective problem-solving. We are looking forward to continuing to build skills that will help them shine in high school and beyond!

This week in Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships the year 3’s have been learning about stress management. They have been exploring self-calming self-control techniques they can use when faced with feelings of anger, sadness and fear.

The year 3’s played a game called ‘mirror’ to help further develop their self-calming techniques that they can use when feeling stressed.
