Principal's Report

Principal Report

With the end of term rapidly approaching, it is worth noting the wide variety of opportunities that have been available to our students both in terms of their learning and their wellbeing growth this semester. Our Senior School students have completed Semester one examinations across all subjects, demonstrating commendable preparation and maturity. Likewise, our Middle School students have been wrapping up assessments, with Year 9 students experiencing their first exam period at the College with English and Maths exams taking place last Monday. Adding to the richness of life at our College, the majority of students have participated in camps, sporting events, performances, celebration days, and excursions. EDSC has been a bustling hive of activity.

With the completion of term two next Friday, we are all looking forward to a break to re-connect with family and friends. This also presents an opportune time to express thanks to the teaching and education support staff for their commitment to provide the best educational opportunities for our students; and to thank the parents in our school community for continuing to support us in the development of our young people.

I trust that all of our students and staff members have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Please note - Term 3 commences on Monday 15 July 2024.

Winter Warmers Music Concerts

Congratulations to our instrumental music students and our Music staff for providing us with two entertaining and sold out ‘Winter Warmers’ Music Concerts in our Performing Arts Centre on Thursday 13 June. The concerts provided a wonderful opportunity to showcase the talents of our hard-working instrumental music ensembles and placed the spotlight on a few of our senior students in individual performances.

As always, it was tremendously pleasing to see the number of our new Year 7 students performing with such confidence, enthusiasm and with wonderful smiles on their faces.

Our Music program continues to engage and impress. Well done to all involved!

Year 12 Formal

I was delighted to attend the Year 12 Formal on Thursday evening at Vogue Ballroom in Burwood East. It was a fantastic evening attended by over 200 students and a large number of staff.  It was truly an evening of celebration and a fitting end to the term for our Year 12 students who have finalised their Unit 3 studies and undertaken their first external exam for 2024 with the GAT taking place on Tuesday this week.

Our students all looked amazing and it was clear that they were revelling in the opportunity to get dressed up and share this milestone in their final year with their peers and teachers.

I will take this opportunity that thank the Senior School Team and student leaders for all the work behind the scenes that made this event possible and particularly to Kate Barresi, our Senior School Secretary, who plays such a significant role in ensuring the success of the evening.

EDSC once again supporting the Big Freeze in 2024

East Doncaster Secondary College are hosting a Big Freeze event on Tuesday 25 June.  We are very proud to make our small contribution to the fight to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease in what has now become an annual event at the College.

Students are encouraged to raise funds for donations and the top 10 fundraisers will be taking part in the Ice Bucket Challenge at lunch time in front of the school library.  The College has a long-standing connection to the Daniher family and we are delighted that ex- AFL player Terry Daniher will be supporting the event and overseeing the ice-bucket challenge on the day.

In addition, we will be showing our support through a casual clothes day and students are encouraged to wear their favourite sporting teams colours for the day! Students wearing casual clothes must bring a gold coin donation which will be collected during Positive Futures.

The event will support Fight MND and those suffering from Motor Neuron Disease.  Click on the link to donate.

I thank our school community in advance for their support of this very important cause.

Cycle 3 student reports

A reminder that our College Cycle 3 reports will be published at the end of next week.

For students in the senior school, our Cycle 3 reports early next term will provide constructive feedback that informs their practices as they strive for a highly successful year and completion of their VCE examinations.

For many of our students, I would like to reinforce that it will also be an important time to recognize and celebrate their achievement and offer a positive reflection of the consistent effort they have made.

Although the reports are archived for the duration of your child's enrolment at our College, I would strongly advise that you download your own copy and save this to your home computer for your future use.

Tax Deductable Donation - EOFY 30 June 2024

Making a tax-deductable donation to our Building Fund before June 30 is a great way to boost your tax return while making a lasting impact on our school.

We are calling on the College community to help us with our Building Fund. We need to generate funds to improve some of our aging buildings. With the support of our families, we are hoping to renew and refresh some of the original 50‐year‐old classrooms and extend The John Landy Centre to cater for more students.

Any voluntary donation over $2 is Tax Deductable. If you wish to make a donation, you can pay via Compass, complete a payment envelope or pay via EFTPOS at the General Office. Tax Receipts for all donations over $2.00 will be issued after 1 July via email.  Feel free to contact the office if you have any queries.

Census Data Collection – Student Family Occupation and Updating Family Details

Every year the Department of Education conduct a census in August which helps determine the level of our schools’ student-based funding. To ensure that the College is able to continue to provide quality programs and an efficient learning environment for our students it relies on being supported by Department funding. Student Family Occupation details are an important component used by DE to formulate our correct level of funding. These details are originally collected on your child’s enrolment form but are often not up to date. For this census to be accurate we ask that all family details are up to date, including parent occupation and occupation code, employer and all contact details. Please complete the data collection form, even if you believe your details have not changed, and return to the College Reception as soon as possible. For assistance with identifying what occupation code to use please refer to the attached document.

It is also vital that families maintain up to date contact information. If your details change we ask that you please complete the Change of Details Form (below) and return to Reception or via email to east.doncaster.sc@education.vic.gov.au
