Holiday Reading on the Sora App

Whether EDSC students are travelling these school holidays or relaxing at home, they can keep borrowing books right throughout the break with the Sora app.

Sora eBooks and audiobooks are perfect for travel as they allow students to keep reading without packing heavy books.

Students can access Sora 24/7 online which means they’ll never run out of fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and manga while the physical school library is closed.

The Sora app can be downloaded onto a laptop, tablet or phone, or accessed via the Sora website.

To login, students should search for ‘East Doncaster Secondary College’ then use the same login details they use for Compass.

Users can also add in their local public library service to access even more eBooks and audiobooks through Sora.

Students should make sure to enter any eBooks and audiobooks they read during the holidays into the EDSC Reading Challenge.

2024 EDSC Bookmark Competition

Our annual EDSC Library Bookmark Design Competition is now open! Entries close on Friday August 9.

This year students’ designs must respond to the Book Week theme ‘Reading is Magic’. The winning design will be selected by popular vote, professionally printed, and provided free to students in the Library. The winner will also receive a $20 prize voucher.

Designs should be emailed to library@eastdonsc.vic.edu.au by Friday 9 August.

You can enter more than once.

Students can create a handmade or digital design. The following rules apply:

  • Bookmarks must be sized 206mm x 56mm
  • The background should go right to the edges. Any text or important graphics need 3mm of ‘bleed’ space at the edge (they should fit inside the size 200mm x 50mm)
  • Digital designs should be 300dpi. Students can use these digital templates for guidance if you like (scroll down to 'Bookmarks' and select templates from the first row)
  • Handmade designs can be photographed or scanned and emailed, and if they win, we will organise a high-quality scan of the artwork for printing
  • Designs must be one sided only. Students may sign your name on the design if you like
  • Designs must include ‘EDSC Reads 2024’ somewhere
  • Designs must respond to the theme ‘Reading is Magic’. These words do not need to appear in designs, and students can interpret this broad theme however they wish
  • Designs must be students’ own work (and not AI generated)

All the rules and other information for the competition can be found on the Library website.

EDSC Reading Challenge Term 2 Update

EDSC students are encouraged to keep up their amazing Reading Challenge efforts throughout the school holidays.

Our students have now read an astounding 3,197 books, with still more than two months to go in the Reading Challenge!

All students who read and verify 15 or more books by September 4 will be invited to our Term 4 Reading Challenge celebration party. Currently 43 students have an invitation, with many more expected to join them.

Congratulations to the winner of our most recent Reading Challenge Fortnightly Draw: Chloe of 7P won a $10 canteen voucher.

Students can enter all the books they’ve read during 2024 into the EDSC Reading Challenge Google Form. All details including rules and prizes are on our Reading Challenge webpage.

We hope the whole EDSC community enjoys their holiday reading!
