Resource Centre

In the Resource Centre we love to share our passion for reading with everyone. During Term 3, we will be showcasing our love of literature by hosting Book Week including our fabulous Character Parade, our annual Book Fair, an author visit and also finalising the Premier’s Reading Challenge! August will certainly be aglow with amazing opportunities to engage with literature!

Book Week 2024

Since 1945/46, the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has celebrated books created by Australian children’s authors and illustrators. The CBCA Books of the year awards aim to:

  • promote quality literature for young Australians by Australians;
  • support and encourage a wide range of Australian writers and illustrators of books for young people aged 0 through 18 and;
  • celebrate contributions to Australian children’s literature. (CBCA, 2023)

This week allows libraries across the country to bring children and books together in a variety of ways including author visits, competitions, dress up events and book fairs as well as many learning and art activities.

The Book Week Character Parade will be held on Wednesday 21 August

Primary School - 9.10am on the Tennis Court

Secondary  School - Lunch time in the Resource Centre

This year we have also joined the Shadow Judging Program presented by CBCA, which allows the school to place a people's choice vote for specific categories.

Our Secondary Book Club has been reading the shortlisted books and having wonderful discussions using the criteria for the older readers category.

In Primary School, different stages have been using the criteria of the selection. The

categories that have been explored are Eva Pownall (non-fiction texts), early

childhood and picture books.

Our Resource Centre Committee will also be planning and presenting lunchtime activities. They are currently in the process of planning the activities they will be running over the duration of Book week. Details will be communicated at a later date.

Author Visit - Eleanor Pearson

To keep the momentum going, we will also be welcoming Eleanor Pearson to our school on the 29 August.

Eleanor’s book titled “Reading is not just for bedtime” is her first published work which has recently been nominated for the ABLE Golden Book Awards.

Eleanor is a primary school teacher who currently teaches at a school in Albury.

Please support Eleanor’s visit by purchasing her book.  This can be done by using the QR code on the attached flyer. Eleanor will personally sign all pre-ordered books and deliver them to your child on the day of her visit.

As Term 3 begins, we are winding up the Premier's Reading Challenge. The final date for entering books online is the 23 August.

The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 10.

Please keep reading books and entering them into your reading online.

You must read a certain number of books to complete the Challenge. Please refer to the Booklist page for more information: https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/booklist/home.html
