Deputy Principal's Report

Enjoying a well deserved break

Dear Parents,

As we approach the much anticipated two week break, it’s important to reflect on the progress our students have made over the past months. We have seen remarkable successes, from academic achievements to personal growth, and these accomplishments deserve to be celebrated. At the same time, it's essential to acknowledge and learn from our challenges and setbacks, as they provide valuable lessons and opportunities for growth.

Taking Time to Rest

We have seen a lot of burn out in the kids over the last couple of weeks. This may present as outbursts of emotions, more upsets, unsettled sleep and being run down and unwell. The break offers a perfect opportunity for everyone to recharge. Encourage your child to take this time to relax and rest. Quality sleep and downtime are crucial for mental and physical well-being, helping to prepare them for the remainder of the school year.

Quality Time Together

Spending quality time with your child during the break is invaluable. Engage in activities that you both enjoy, whether it's playing games, cooking together, watching a movie or simply having meaningful conversations. These moments don't have to be every part of their free time - remember boredom leads to creative thinking and problem solving!

Patience and Understanding

Remember that patience and understanding are key during the break. Transitioning from a structured school routine to a more relaxed home environment can be challenging for children. Talk through things that may be frustrating. Put some clear expectations and routines in place and focus on behaviours you want to see rather than the ones you don't.

Keeping Some Routines

While it’s important to enjoy the break, maintaining some routines, especially as the end of the break approaches, can help ease the transition back to school. Consistent bedtimes and mealtimes can provide a sense of stability and prepare your child for returning to their school schedule.

Limiting Screen Time

Encourage your child to spend time outdoors and engage in physical activities. Limiting screen time and promoting outdoor play can have significant benefits for their health and wellbeing. Green spaces, even in colder weather, provide a refreshing change of environment and a chance to stay active.

Reconnecting with Classmates and Family

The break is a great opportunity for your child to catch up with classmates and reconnect with family members. These social interactions are essential for their emotional and social development. Plan activities that allow for safe gatherings and quality family time.

You can find a whole list of activities that are on in Melbourne during the break here.

Staying Active

Physical activity is crucial, even during the break. Encourage your child to stay active through sports, outdoor play, or even indoor exercises. Keeping active not only benefits their physical health but also improves their mood and energy levels.

Wishing you all a restful and rejuvenating break!

Thanks for all your support,
