Principal's Report

It is hard to believe that we are already half way through this year. I'm sure that we say this every term but we've managed to pack a lot into this term:  House Cross Country, District Cross Country, Winter Sport, Sacrament of Eucharist, Year 2 Family Mass, Year 5 and 6 Cluster Day, Lightning Premierships and the School Disco.

We thank Bernice Donato for teaching 3G this term, and we welcome Annalisa Gourley back to St Finbar's after her time home in Ireland.  The 3G children were in great hands with Bernice and we will miss having her on staff next term; hopefully she'll be back for some more CRT days soon. We also welcome back Mrs Amanda Norton from her parental leave.

It appears that there is a mass exodus from Melbourne these holidays with St Finbar's families heading off to Fiji, Bali and Europe just to name a few exotic locations.  So many children have been excitedly telling me about their upcoming travels. Whatever you are doing these holidays, stay safe and enjoy the break from normal routine.

Mid-Year Reports

Our mid-year reports were made available to families yesterday. The teachers have put a lot of time into these reports, ensuring that they accurately reflect each student's achievements so far this year. Many of you have had communication and/or meetings with teachers in recent weeks, so there shouldn't have been any surprises in your child's report. If you do have questions, please reach out to your child's teacher in the first instance to seek clarification.  Thank you to our Teaching and Learning leader Callum Mills who has coordinated the report process this semester.

Disco

The school disco was a huge success on Friday night with a lot of effort going into costumes. It was wonderful to see the children having so much fun with their friends. Feel free to have a look at the gallery of photos from the photo booth - some of them are hilarious. Just a heads up that there are 544 photos in the gallery below, they are all so good that I couldn't possibly leave any out.

Thank you to the Year 4 parents who organised the disco this year, and to all the parents that helped out on Friday night. I'd like to especially thank those who remained after the disco to assist with the cleanup of the hall.

P and F Lunch

The staff were very spoiled once again yesterday with our staff lunch, provided by the Prep and Year 3 families. It was very much appreciated.

Around the Classrooms

There has been so much happening in the classrooms this week as classes wrap up their term's learning, and in many cases present their learning to their peers.

The Year 3 students published their Captain Cook diary entries, going for the "ye olde world" look with the help of some tea. In Visual Arts the year 5s are working on their dog sculptures which will eventually be a gift for their Prep buddies.  The Year 5 and 6s have worked so hard on their Australian History dioramas and the results are impressive. They also presented their work to their classmates, demonstrating an understanding of a key event in Australia's history such as the Eureka Stockade or the Port Arthur penal settlement. I also had two Year 1 students visit the Principal Office to show off their beautiful handwriting.

Take care and God bless.

Michelle Hill,

Principal
