"Dare to be Different"
Dear Families,
I hope you all had a great holiday with your children and were able to keep warm and out of the rain. Our term has started well and we are right into preparing for our school production which will take place on the 17th and 18th of September in the last week of this term. There will be regular Operoo notices sent home to all families so that you have all the information you need about the performance, such as venue, costuming, performance night for each class, ticketing etc. Please check your operoo notices carefully for this information.
We also had some happy news over the holidays:
Holly Bartley and her husband Sam announced the arrival of Paddy River Bartley.
Here is a message from Holly:
Please welcome a new member of the St Marks Community… Paddy River Bartley! Born at 9:46am on Saturday the 13th of July. Beautiful and chubby weighing in at 3.9kgs.
It was an eventful night. Sandringham Hospital looked after us with supreme care.
We have finally arrived home and we are thrilled to start the next chapter in our lives.
We couldn’t be more over the moon and so in love. Thank you to everyone for your love and support and we cannot WAIT to bring the squish in for cuddles.
The Winter Family (Poppy in Foundation) welcomed a beautiful baby boy named Sam.
We wish both familie all the very best as the start their journeys with their new family members.
Some of our wonderful students, lead by Zara in year 5, went to a lot of trouble to make many loom bands of all kinds, to sell to raise money for the Epilepsy foundation. Durinng the holidays they went together to the Epilepsy foundation to donate the $326 dollars they raised. What a wonderful effort girls - WELL DONE! There is a certificate on display in the school office from the Epilepsy foundation.
Please remember that phones and smart watches are not permitted to be used at school at any time. Children who need to bring these items to school as they walk or catch public transport to and from school must leave them fully switched off and in their bags during the school day. They are not to be brought out until the children have left the school property.
It has been brought to our attention that some children are engaging in inappropriate activities on some social media platforms. We advise and encourage all parents to remain vigilant with their supervision of their children using these platforms and note that many of these social media platforms have age limits of 13/14, so primary school aged children should not be accessing them. Breaches of our IT agreement by students will be treated very seriously, especially if the breaches involve hurtful activities/content towards others.
Whitney worked very hard to prepare for her Nationals adventure. She had extra lessons and practiced regularly at home including working on stretching and technique.
She won first for ATOD VIC state championship https://www.atod.net.au/.
On the weekend she represented Team Victoria for Broadbent Dance Academy at Nationals in Adelaide. There were 7 other competitors for mini Jazz from NSW, QLD, SA and VIC.
For nationals, there was a jazz class that was 50% of the mark and then a jazz solo dance performance which was 50% so judging and placement was a combined effort.
Whitney came 2nd! She was incredible.
Congratulations to Levi for receiving four 1st place medals at his recent Karate Championships. Levi's committment and dedication to the sport of Karate has led to this wonderful achievement. We wish Levi continued success with his Karate.
Well Done Levi!
