Personal and Social Capability
CURRICULUM FOCUS
We are learning to focus on the present moment and notice things in our everyday environment.
VOCABULARY
Mindfulness: Being mindful means having your mind on what you are doing. It's the opposite of rushing or doing too many things at once. To be mindful, you slow down to take your time. You do one thing at a time. You focus on what you're doing in a calm way.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
- Take children for a short walk around home. Whilst you are walking take some mental or written notes of things happening in the environment that the children may not have mindfully noticed. For example a bird’s nest, cracks in the pavement, veins in a leaf, students doing something interesting outside, building works happening, etc.
- After returning home, discuss with your child the things they noticed whilst walking around outside.
