Week 8 & 9 in the Kitchen...

National Reconciliation  Week

We continued to focus on Indiginous ingredients in the Kitchen and used lemon myrtle, saltbush, warrigal greens and  wattleseed.

The delicious recipes are attached.

We have also been discussing World Environment Day, whcih took place last week. Some of the students in Garde Prep and 1/2 talked about reducing waste and upcycling things around us.

We used an old tablecloth from the kitchen (upcycling), cut it into small pieces and used some bees wax (reusing) to make some wax lunch wraps. They look amazing, were super easy and are a fantastic solution to reduce lunchbox waste.

The students also tasted some gorgeous little 'strawberry guava' that we had growing on one of the trees in the garden. It was so great to see the students taste something 'foreign' ... although some tasted sweet and some tasted sour!!

STRAWBERRY GUAVA

We made a sweet crumb and completed our strawberry guava dish with some icecream (slightly fancy!)

We also made some fried rice and made good use of the garden produce; eggs, silverbeet, kale, celery and parsley.

Parent Volunteers

If you would like to volunteer in the Kitchen & Garden program, please send an email to your class teacher who will then let us know your availability. Parents will be assigned to work alongside their child in either the kitchen or garden unless otherwise requested.

Enjoy your weekend and keep cooking!

           Environment Day

              5th June 2024

On Wednesday 5th June we              acknowledged World              Environment Day.

This day reminds us that we all need to take care of our planet. The theme for this year is  Our Land Our Future - fight against our dissapearing land.

On Wednesday our Sustainability Leaders led some lunchtime activities for our students to enjoy.  We made biodegradable paper pots and planted them up with native seeds.  These pots will be planted up in our indigenous garden .

.  We also finished off our scented bush bags and collected lots of native materials from our amazing school grounds.

Happy Winter Gardening
