Learning In My Level

A celebration of what's happening across the school!

Level 5

Term 3 has kicked off with a bang for Level 5 with many exciting things happening and much anticipation on display for what is to come!

During the students’ first week of term they explored and participated in a number of activities to celebrate NAIDOC week. The students unpacked what NAIDOC week is and the importance of celebrating the contributions that First Nations peoples have made to our society. Many of the classes gathered with their Buddy Class and completed various activities based around NAIDOC week.

This was incorporated into Reading Rotations where students explored and analysed a number of Dreamtime stories and the messages that are prevalent within them. This also linked well with our Writing unit, as we learn the importance of and writing with a specific purpose, message and audience in mind. The students had the opportunity to rewrite in their own words the story of ‘Cunning Crow’, with the focus on sharing the moral of the story.

The students have also participated in their second ‘Book Tasting’ for the year for the next participation in Literature Circles. They demonstrated an overwhelmingly positive mindset and eagerness to continue developing the skill that they learnt last semester.

Level 6

We wish our Year 6 families a huge welcome back to school for term 3. We have a lot of exciting things this term involving our Market Mayhem, City Walk, lots of sports and of course the Olympics. The students are currently writing a detailed information report about an Olympic athlete of their choosing. One exciting event for 8 of our Year 6 students, was being involved in filming for The Resilience Project with Hugh Van Cuylenburg, the founder of The Resilience Project. What a memorable and special thing to be a part of #famous.

This Term our inquiry focus is Market Mayhem. The students are learning how to become excelled entrepreneurs and educated salespeople. Students will be participating in our Smoothie bar incursion in week 3 to learn all things business… and smoothies! In our lessons, students will be pitching ideas for potential stalls at the fete and learning what it means to plan and execute a confident and cohesive business. In maths, we have been focusing on financial maths and planning an imaginary food truck to ignite some money savvy thoughts in preparation for fete stall planning.

On the Friday of Week 1, the year 6 students found out which sport they will be championing this term for our Summer (almost!) Interschool Sports. Students are split between Cricket, Volleyball, Ultimate Frisbee, Tennis and Basketball for their sports. Each week students will train and learn, before our exciting round robins later this term.

The Year 6 cohort are very excited to once again be completing our Literature circles within our classes. Each student participated in our ‘book tasting’ and chose a novel to focus on for the term. There is much excitement amongst students as they explore new roles and responsibilities for their weekly jobs.

We are so excited for an awesome Term ahead!
