Today is a great day to be you!
Last Friday, we were fortunate enough to be visited by Hugh van Cuylenburg - founder of The Resilience Project. Rangeview was selected by TRP as a 'high performing wellbeing school', which is a great shout-out to the daily work all of our staff do to ensure our students have the best possible learning environment.
Hugh spent time with a selection of Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 students across the morning, discussing all things 'GEM' (Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness). Hugh guided the conversations about GEM and played some games using the topic of emotional literacy; and it's fair to say our students involved were simply brilliant! Hugh was blown away by their maturity and knowledge of these topics, and how they all apply them to the school and everyday lives.
We are very proud of the work we are doing in this space and it has been wonderful to hear an ever-increasing number of comments and emails coming in from our Rangeview families around the impact that TRP is also now having in the home.
I would love to continue to receive any feedback (positive or otherwise) or your stories of how you are using TRP or other wellbeing strategies at home. Please touch base here: liam.sommers@education.vic.gov.au.
On Thursday 25th July, Danielle Anderson, Tania Balderston and I then attended TRP's annual teacher seminar at the Convention Centre. The day focused on a range of topics, including 'Discovering Resilience' (Hugh van Cuylenburg), 'Authentic Connections' (Martin Heppell), along with sessions focused on teacher/staff wellbeing and self-care.
We learned about the power of vulnerability and how we can use our stories and experiences to connect with our students. We are all dealing with our own challenges and problems and no one lives the 'perfect' life, so being open to modelling the concept that 'It's okay to not be okay' is a huge step to bringing down barriers for our students to talk about their problems and the things that are worrying them.
We also explore some really practical, hands-on and quick to use strategies to help students tap into Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness.
Finally, please see the video below for an awesome Rangeview shout out from Martin himself!
On Sunday 11th August, RAFT (RAngeview Fathering Tribe) will be hosting a fun Board Games Day in the gym from 12:00pm - 5:00pm.
We encourage you all to come along and enjoy some games with other families - you are welcome to use the board games provided by the school, or bring your own along to share! There is no requirement to stay for the entire five hours - your family can drop in and out anytime you like! Please remember that any children present must be accompanied by an adult.
Please scan the QR Code on the poster below to register for this event.
On Tuesday 20th August from 6:30-7:30pm, a team member from TRP will be visiting the school to run an in-person workshop/seminar with our community on the topic of Digital Wellbeing. We have already received a strong response to this offering - due to the demand, we can confirm this session will now run in the gym. Child-minding will be offered (in the music room) from 6:15pm-7:45pm.
If you are interested, registration is important. Please see the poster below for more information and scan the QR Code to register your attendance.
We are all very excited to get into the Olympics spirit over the coming weeks! Following the Olympics, we will all then celebrate the Paralympics (beginning 28th August).
These sporting events provide so many great teaching points for our students - from hard work, commitment and determination to resilience, sportsmanship and humility (amongst many others!).
We kicked off the celebrations with our Green and Gold dress up day today! It's great to see all the students get involved
and share some excitement around the Olympics.
We will have a special whole school Olympics assembly on Monday 5th August beginning at 2:15pm in the gym.
