Swimming Program

Next term ALL children will complete the swimming program in the first 2 weeks of school, starting on the first Monday back.  It is really important that where possible ALL children complete the 8 sessions throughout the 2 weeks so that they learn the skills needed which may one day save their lives.  Throughout the program the children will learn how to swim and develop their swimmng ability, so that hopefully by the end of year 6 they can swim competantly over 50 meters.  They will also learn important lessons in Life Saving techniques and demonstrate skills in water safety, so that if needed, they are able to be safe in and around water.  See below the current research on why swimming is so important.

In week 4 children in Years 3-6 will take part in the Swimming Carnival.  This is a fantastic opportunity for the older children to be part of a team, where they can show leadership, teamwork and sportsmanship.  Here ALL students compete in races of their own swimming ability to gain points for their House.   If time permits there will also be multi age relay races and fun activities for the Year 6.

Despite working hard to relay the water safety message, we continue to see lives lost in our waterways that could have been prevented.

Life Saving Victoria released the annual Victorian drowning report this week, summarising all the fatal and non-fatal drowning incidents within Victoria’s waterways in the past financial year.

Tragically, 59 people drowned within Victoria’s waterways in the last financial year, and paramedics attended 122 further incidents as a result of non-fatal incidents. This is an increase in comparison to previous year.

This year we had our highest number on record of eight fatal drowning deaths as a result of extreme weather events such as heat waves or flooding. It’s a concern as we approach anticipated heat waves and conditions likely to drive more people to waterways.

Our message is to ensure the community are visiting a patrolled waterway, whether a patrolled beach or an aquatic facility, where lifeguards can see people and provide advice on the weather conditions.

While these are great places to cool off, it’s essential to do it safely to enjoy the day and get home safely.

Play Club

The Resurrection Play Club is extremely popular but we are in desperate need of materials and equipment for the children to play with.  Play and build club is a place for children in Years Prep, 1 and 2 to come and use the natural and loose play equipment we have on offer.  We have some great Mud kitchens which the children love to play with.   BUT WE NEED MORE loose play equipment!  Especially the bowls or tubs to replace the ones which have been taken.  Watch the video below to find out more about the benefits of play.

Play Club is a place where children can build, imagine and PLAY.  There are no instructions or teaching and no rules (accept for our RESKEYS of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience). It is a place for the children to create, build, play imaginativly and just be themselves!  Studies have shown that play builds key aspects of childrens Brain development as well as being a healthy lifestyle activity, it also grows confidence in young people as well as helps connects individuals and communities.

If you have any great equipment which can be used for the children to play with at our club please bring it in to reception.  Below is a list of recommended items (please, nothing that can break easily):

Planks of wood

Sturdy crates

Staneless steal pots, pans and utensils

Plastic cups, bowls, plates and utensils

Rope

Ground sheets

Thick pipes

Unbroken pipes

Buckets and spades

Baking trays

Kitchen untensils

 Thank you
