TEACHING AND LEARNING

Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

Over the past week, Lucas PS has celebrated this week with a number of student activities that continues our understanding of our rich indigenous history. We were also fortunate enough to hold a Lucas Yarning with our aboriginal families to share how we are building a culturally respectful and inclusive school. Feedback was gathered from the afternoon session and from which, we look forward to creating our very own yarning circle in the school grounds over the coming weeks.

Linkin Petrie – National Karate Champion

Last month LPS one of our 2023 Year 6 Graduates, Linkin Petrie travelled to Sydney to compete in the So-Kyokushin (Karate) Nationals. Linkin has been doing karate since he was 4 years old and is a member of Southern Warriors Martial Arts here in Ballarat. This was Linkin’s first ever karate tournament. He competed in the 11- to 12-year-old boys’ padded contact section, and he won! Linkin is now a National Champion!!

Linkin, we are all very proud of you. Congratulations on your commitment and all the effort that you have put into your karate over the years that has led you to this achievement. A fantastic effort and accomplishment!
