Visual Arts

Wominjenka everyone.

As Reconciliation Week approaches, ‘Now more than ever’, we have been busy reading two books, ‘Respect’, by Aunty Fay Muir & Sue Lawson, and ‘The Art in Country’, by Bronwyn Bancroft. Both books depict a respect for the country and the land on which we live. In response to these books, students are creating artwork that reflects the land on which we live, after taking some time out in the school yard and taking time to stop, listen, and take in the beauty of the trees and bird life in our school yard. There has been lots of texture created, colour and different techniques used. When finished, this artwork will be displayed in the office area. So, keep a look out for these.

In addition to this the Preps have been busy painting yachts. Working in pairs they happily painted and applied lots of colour to their vessels. While I started out with the idea of simple colours, the Preps had other ideas, adding detail and decorations. I have to say, their ideas were better than my initial idea.

The Grade Ones created Williamstown themed pictures using pastels and their mark making techniques. It was delightful to watch these little ones work see their confidence grow as they began to take risks and be creative.

The Grade Twos have been doing colour theory, mixing colours to make colour wheels. While most students managed to put the colours in the right order, some are still working on it. They seemed to enjoy  working with paint and mixing the primary colours to make secondary colours.

The Grade Threes have begun to plan out their birds and sea creatures. While they have painted some coloured paper, they may need to do more, so this could be a longer process than you might imagine.

The Grade Fours continued working on their Ken Done inspired images of Williamstown. They are really starting to get the hang of these, making them bright and colourful. The feedback they have given each other has been positive and supportive.

Thank you to everyone who has sent along plastic bottles, they are very much appreciated. While we still need plastic bottles of varying sizes, work has begun on making sea creatures & bird sculptures. Some kids are still trying to think how they can turn a plastic or a piece of cardboard into something life like, and others have begun the sculpting stage. It is a process and not everyone needs a 4 litre vinegar bottle, especially those making something small and flat.

Until next time, stay safe, have fun, be happy and keep creating art!

Physical Education

Biweekly Focus on Physical Education – Term 2 Week 6

Prep Encouraging collaborative efforts, our Prep students engage in paired and group activities centered around movement challenges. This not only develops physical dexterity but also nurtures teamwork and communication skills among our youngest learners.

Grades 1 & 2 In the early primary years, emphasis is placed on locomotor skills, utilizing various body parts. This practice enhances physical coordination and fosters an understanding of body mechanics.

Grades 3 & 4 Exciting introductions to net and wall games, such as volleyball, aim to sharpen hand-eye coordination. These activities are carefully crafted to captivate students, promoting both physical prowess and strategic thinking.

Grade 5/6 Exploring advanced game strategies in both invasion and cooperative games, our upper primary students refine their tactical acumen and teamwork abilities, with a special focus on basketball. This structured curriculum primes them for more intricate sports engagements.

Sports Highlights

We extend our best wishes to the 18 Williamstown Primary students who have advanced to the Hobson’s Bay Division Cross Country finals at Presidents Park, Wyndham Vale, on Tuesday, May 28th. Your dedication and skill are commendable, and we are confident you will represent our school with excellence. Best of luck in the upcoming competition!

Warm Regards,

Paddy Gallivan (Physical Education)
